Ideal world yes, but its not an ideal world. Removing of most of the rear end to change pipework wasn't really planned for and whilst I am doing most of the work myself, my free time will be more limited in the next couple of months, so its either run the car through my workshops as a paying job, or take it to Unit20 (500 mile round trip each way).

I'm thinking - fit Koni's as a temporary measure, and take car off the road over winter and to reinstate DRC at a later date. I can then research DRC in more detail, possibly making a DRC recharge tool. The guy who made the other one should rent it out.

Konis weren't hard to do and I'm happy with the ride.
This was the guide I followed that had a few shortcuts for some bits : https://www.rs6.com/showthread.php/2394 ... low-Sports
Rears I'm on the lowest setting IIRC and I'm on the softer of the settings on that site (1/2 turn front, 1/4 turn rear)

OK, throw another set of thoughts into the mix. How long are you keeping the car? I understand the thoughts on keeping it original with low miles but you also have to live with the DRC for as long as you keep the car and personally that is not something I would be prepared to do.

I went down the Bilstein B8 route with original springs. It is everything I would want and I am at speed at times plus a real variety of roads. Koni or Bilstein, I doubt you'll be able to tell the difference and it'll be fit and forget rather than the potential for ongoing very expensive DRC issues.

Anything more for a street car is overkill. I think most owners are past the thoughts of tracking this car with the scarcity of transmission parts but if you were then the PSS range are worthwhile.

Decision made - going for the Konis.

How long will I keep the car - don't know. Assuming I like it, its likely to stay for 5 years or so based on previous cars, unless circumstances change.

Suspect you're familiar with the Audi suspension setup already, but the pinch bolt on the top balljoints is often seized in.
If you are browsing Ben's PSS DIY, you will see he did remove the pinch bolt, however I didn't do that, thinking it would need heat, drilling and just generally be aggro.
I did it this way instead, which worked fine and left that bolt alone : https://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel49.shtml

Yes, familar with the front and this is now all freed off and certain long bolts passing through aluminium sections have been coated in an anti-sieze compound, but thanks for the heads-up...

Koni dampers arrived today. Also ordered a CV boot kit for front LH side, so will tackle that at same time. Also ordered parts for the transfer box to propshaft seal as that has a slight weep.

I think (I hope) thats probably it for the purchasing department for the immediate future...

Transfer box seal done. Only 150ml left of oil in it ( :-o ) - the rest is mostly accounted for the puddle on my mother in laws garage floor, a smaller puddle in my yard, plus and unknown quantity distributed around Norfolk when it was last on the road. Fortunately I ordered new bolts, as two of the old ones rounded off and required "persuasion" to remove. Exhaust was easy to remove at least.

Broken clamp for fuel filter also repaired, so will move the car off the ramp to do the dampers and NSF CV boot.

Front dampers fitted. Headlamp washers made to work so bumper all fitted properly and wheelarch liners fitted properly.

Rear dampers left to do and front CV boot (couldn't find a 17mm allen socket.)

Annoyingly haven't found time during the week to attend to any of the above and the next two weekends are out. Hopefully find time one evening next week to get the other bits done.

There are a couple of dents which I'm asking local PDR companies to quote on, although there are a lot of light scratches down the left hand side due to mother in laws hedge, so I'll have to get the machine polishing kit out.

I'm also looking at possibly changing the head unit. I like the Pioneer unit in my Toyota Sera, although I'm confused about cabling. I think I just need one adaptor and an aerial adaptor - although I do listen to DAB stations in the Sera.

You might struggle with DAB in the RS6. The antenna is a diversity unit and if it's not driven by the OE headunit it will give a very weak signal. Not strong enough for DAB almost certainly. You might have to think about an external antenna. Personally I just use internet radio on my phone through the OE headunit.
