Re: New owner of 2003 RS6 C5 Saloon
So timing belt is back on, although managed to drop a tool onto the lower v-belt pulley and the plastic case cracked :-/ Hunt tomorrow to see if Audi have one in stock, or can track one down.
Refitting the TDC locking plug was a nightmare, but all thats back together. Putting the pipework back on was easy in comparison. Changed spark plugs.

Can't really do much today except wait for the new pulley to arrive (Wednesday).
Everything is cleaned and ready to put back together.

Re: New owner of 2003 RS6 C5 Saloon
Last weekend I wasn't able to do anything due to other prior committments, but I've spent the odd hour here and there doing little bits. Today made a big push and, well, it looks like a car again....
Today I took it off the axle stands, back on its front wheels, filled up the coolant until all the air came out of the bleed hole and then, after a deep breath, cross fingers I turned the ignition key. It burst into life and has now settled into a smooth idle. I ran it until the heaters got warm, turned off and bled coolant system.
Drove it around the yard. Front suspension very bouncy (despite new dampers and springs) so I suspect I'll need to look at DRC recharging. May need to give the brakes another bleed.
Put front bumper back on now, but headlamp washers don't seem to work, so probably take it off again soon!

Hey buddy. Great work you are doing. Soon have a car that your mother in law will be very proud of.
Be careful she might want it back ?
Seriously you have done great work to get it up and running and soon to be back on the road
Just needs a mot. Then fun time.

Re: New owner of 2003 RS6 C5 Saloon
I thought we bled the coolant on these by filling it and then letting it warm up and that’s it. The thermostat opens the level drops then you refill what’s needed !
Re: New owner of 2003 RS6 C5 Saloon
Nope. 2 bleed points.
1 behind the motor on the coolant rail and one on the heater hose.
Doesn’t bleed without at least doing the motor one, I tried.

Re: New owner of 2003 RS6 C5 Saloon
Mine doesn't have the hot country / plus type additional radiator, so only one bleed for me (I think)

Re: New owner of 2003 RS6 C5 Saloon
Don’t think so. Mine is a regular RS too.
It’s the rail that runs behind the motor and alongside the RHS valve cover that is the important one.
10mm socket on a 1/4” ratchet with about 12” of extension bar.

Re: New owner of 2003 RS6 C5 Saloon
I'd better check that. I was following the bleed guide on Elsawin, not mentioned there.

Re: New owner of 2003 RS6 C5 Saloon
Ok. Didn’t do that for mine and it bled fine and had no issues. Will check it and see if I get any air out
Re: New owner of 2003 RS6 C5 Saloon
You can bleed it through the heater matrix pipe no problem.
