Although I am no expert. I feel I have recently gained a lot of knowledge where front and rear windscreens are concerned for our cars.
1) not all front screens are the right size although suppliers will tell you otherwise.
2) not all installers are up to the job of fitting a screen properly / professionally.
3) some rear screens have large resistance differences and are not suitable for our cars. They will get really hot and explode when you put the demister on. Thankfully no one was sat on my rear seats. They would have been showered in hot glass particles.
It took a full week of hoovering to remove all the broken glass. Each day just kept finding more remnants.
And thankfully there was no damage to the leather and alcantara interior.

Thanks to you all for sharing your experiences, very useful information which I have shared with my insurer's (saga) nominated class replacement company Auto windscreens.
Saga won't authorise an audi supplied replacement, but A W assure me they have found the correct one and their main supplier is Pilkington's, so I'll find out on 26th Aug.
I'll let you know how it works out!

Ric. My crap one was supplied by auto glass.
Correct one should be as the photos.
Suggest you compare the above pilkington photo and part number To the intended screen BEFORE they install it.
Hope it all goes well for you mate.
Ps
I had the same problem with insurers. They dictated the supplier and the installer.
Told them to forget it and and sorted it myself with Audi.
Also make sure the installer removes ALL of the old bonding. Some of them don’t.
If the screen doesn’t go all the way back. You will end up with a horrible vibration noise with the dashboard.

Steve,
Thanks for the extra tip.
Auto windscreens seem to understand the issue, and by coincidence the charity that I help run just happens to be their landlord at the installation site (St Albans)
If they get it right no doubt they may get some more work from others on here.

Was pleasantly surprised - seemes Auto Windscreens got it right. (saving final judgement until it rains ) Actually they were very helpful. They get their glass from Pilkinsons.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to there when new screen went in, but model numbers same as Steve's Audi one, the screen which came out was not oem ( must have been replaced before I got it 11 years ago) and had a slight gap at bottom right, but under the trim. Never leaked as far as I know.

Saga (insurance) would not agree dealer supplied screen, but for a £75 excess I'm not bothered about missing :kissmyrings:

Spot the difference between Steves audi supplied glass top
Auto windscreens supplied middle
Old non oem that was replaced bottom

Nice result ric. Pleased it went well. And yes screen part no the same so you would expect it to be oem.
Agree the bottom picture shows what happens when the incorrect screen is installed with gaps.

Ric the 4 Audi rings etched on my windscreen cost me £100:00 for each ring compared to your screen.
Weirdly I still feel it was good value.

Hi Guys,
Asked Audi spares for a replacement for my Advant. Audi stopped supplying them last year. They are doing a world search to try and find me one but said its not looking good.
This sucks.

Greg. Mine was from Audi last year.
The one Ric bought was from auto windscreen’s.
Both were made by pilkintons and both screens had the same part number etched on the screen.
I would try auto windscreens first. It was a lot cheaper than audi for what seems like the same screen.
Good look mate. Let us know how you get on.
The above photos also show what it looks like if you get the wrong screen with big gaps at each end.
I guess they are for the A6 ? Not Rs6.

At the time I think there was 5 or 6 of them in NZ.
Check with Lander91 if you are stuck.

Gents, apologies for the stupid question.

In steves Audi screen picture with correct install i do not see the rubber seal that looks short at the outer edge at the bottom of the screen. Is this just the photo or does this seal get pushed fully into the scuttle panel with the correct screen?
Many thanks..... as I can see that seal on my windscreen.

Steven

There is no seal at the bottom edge of the screen.
The plastic water deflector sits in front and behind the bottom of the screen.
The gaps at each end in the above photos are due to the incorrect screen being installed. Not deep enough to meet with the deflector.
Hope this helps Steve.

Ps I initially thought that the plastic deflector was too short. As it gives that impression. Not so. It was the screen causing all the problems.
