Re: Car Standing-Battery Dying-Kill Switch
IF your alarm horn is fitted, what impact will disconnecting the main battery have on the Alarm battery? I don't know the life of the charge is meant to be long or short but for all of us that had / have old (original) batteries, it could mean that you have no alarm capability should anyone try and pop the door.

Good point. And will it not go off if you lock the doors then disconnect the battery?

Your alarm is usually triggered by a signal from a control module, with the battery disconnected that's not going to happen.
It's not set up the same way as a house alarm which has various anti-tamper mechanisms.

It's about as loud as a digital watch alarm anyway. I was surprised to see mine go off the other day when I was past the open windows. I can't believe the siren is still working!

Re: Car Standing-Battery Dying-Kill Switch
Mine is still going as well. Sounds like a kitten. Makes the same sound when I lock it. Rear bumper is coming off to be resprayed. I will change the battery at the same time.

Re: Car Standing-Battery Dying-Kill Switch
I only found out about the original alarm when I was fixing the climate unit over the holidays. That was a surprise.
I will also have the rear bumper sprayed at some point.
What battery am I looking to get hold of to replace?

Most Audi alarm sirens are sealed with an internal rechargeable battery.anditsoundslikebells wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 9:54 amI only found out about the original alarm when I was fixing the climate unit over the holidays. That was a surprise.

You can try to get a replacement unit, but it will likely have an old tired battery anyway, or try to cut it open and replace.
Or just live with it as it is.....

I got this off Ebay - works well. I lock the car on the key with the tailgate open. Reach under to battery and disconnect.Close tailgate. Main faff is re-keying the audio code every time you restart.

Re: Car Standing-Battery Dying-Kill Switch
ironically my alternator died between starting this thread and now. I assume it had been on its way out for a while, meaning the battery wasn't getting fully charged.
New battery, refurbished alternator.
I'll see how I go.
(I'm still keen on a kill switch interrupting the earth but placed in the spot where the CD player was)

Re: Car Standing-Battery Dying-Kill Switch
Could use something like this in place of the traditional motorsport style battery isolator switch.

Have used these on Formula 3 racing cars and never had any problems.

Thank you. I was looking for that the other day and couldn’t find it. Brilliant bit of kit.

This is the alarm out of the spares car. I fitted batteries to the outside. It's different to the one in my car. Need to do the one in my car now. Cut them open with a Dremel.
Re: Car Standing-Battery Dying-Kill Switch
I’ve bought a spare one to do just the same
