Totally agree. As I said earlier if there’s no trust then there is no point IMO.
Didn’t do the diffs or xfer box as the oil test was ok. Even though it was included in the original quote.
As Shop says total bollox.
Stay well clear in future.

Just on the oil test, this can be done and is an industry standard across marine, transport, aeronautical and the list goes on BUT every oil test will generate a certificate and there is a cost and that and the time to get a response makes the statement highly suspicious. It would have been cheaper and quicker to change the oil. My twopence worth, ask for the certificate or change the oil.

Wtf. That’s all I can say !

They seem to think it's the plug for the radiator and are ordering one in. Fingers crossed it doesn't take them 3 weeks to fit it.

Is it coolant or something more oily?

Haven;t checked in all honesty, I just assumed coolant. And since the level dropped also, it points towards coolant.

IF it turns out not to be coolant, check the screen washer tank. Thats exactly where it drops it's lunch if one of the seals or pumps spring a leak. Had it on my RS4 two years ago and a right pain to change out.

Good shout Tony. There's also the connector to the headlamp washers behind the bumper there that it's easy to lose the retaining clip on. Does screenwash taste the same as coolant?
@Mark
I am not sympathetic to the time taken combined with poor comms.
However - I do have sympathy for it being a "bit of a job". The cars are 18 years old now and when you look at then underside of them, or deep in the engine bay, they all show it, if you are in the UK, certainly. I went on a mission to re-powdercoat all the steel bits of suspension on mine and they look decent again - but short of a proper strip down and nut & bolt rebuild, they're still an 18 year old car and that's 18 years of other people doing lord only knows what to them as well.
I fix the odd thing for mates and even then have to warn them that we won't know what we find until we find it - on old stuff every job is 1 seized bolt, stripped thread or rounded bolt away from being a multi-day nightmare. Mate's trans-am I referenced the other day - he's having headers fitted. I'll eat this table if some of the exhaust bolts don't sheer off and need re-drilling, maybe even helicoiling, depending on who's doing the drilling.

On the positive side. I had my diffs and xfer box oils changed yesterday.
They informed me that the old oils didn’t look too bad.
I think this is the first time those oils have ever been changed. Definitely not done since 2012.
So basically your oils should be similar provided you have had no leakage.
Although it’s always nice to know they have been done
and you have the history.
It also doesn’t deter from the fact that they quoted for doing the work and didn’t do it.

Agree with everything that's been said. The main reason I settled for them, was they were closer to me than anyone else and the kind of metal they had there made me think they should be pretty decent.
When I picked it up there was a V10 R8 there and a 355, alongside all the GT3s etc....
But I'm certainly going to give Unit 20 my business from now on, given the car was away for just over a month, it would have been quicker overall to make the trip !
When I took it to MRC for the health check and a few bits doing, they called me very single step of the way. Gave me a list of issues and then broke them down into what they thought were the most important issues and gave me suggestions and advice on what I should do. This is exactly how I would imagine and have heard Unit 20 are like. Although MRC are closer to me, I've heard that Unit 20 are actually better for general care and work of the car and MRC for tuning.
All I can say, is we live and learn

Yes mate. Like most of us on here. All we ask for is honesty and a fair price for looking after our motors.
Unfortunately that seems hard to come by these days.
Although a long trip there and back I won’t use anyone else but unit 20.
Lots on members on here recommended them to me when I first joined this site.
I am so glad I took their advice.

The condition you mention isn't unknown here. There was a time when UK imports were the only way to get some of the more attractive models and the corrosion was fearful. Luckily we seem to have passed that stage and I for one am always grateful that I don't have to work on machinery with high levels of rust any more. The normal wear and tear is enough.Mɐʇʇ wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 11:52 am...................................

Same here, I'd love to have a go at changing the cam belt but not having a garage and having to do it in the front drive, not the best, so may have to get mine done by specialists. There's a garage in Malvern that did my first cambelt change and diff oil and gearbox oil change and they were very reasonable then, Straightline Performance is the name, Gavin is the geazer who I first dealt with there.
And now my 2nd cambelt change is due this year! I didn't think I'd have the car this long, but it don't half go still, and has everything I like in a car (apart from loving Shell garages too much ). Have changed the stereo to a DAB, installed a reversing camera and a hidden tracker, with some upgraded quality focal speakers which sound awesome, it's the best place to play my music! lol! And I've been thinking should I keep the car or sell as it's 18 years old! It's very hard to want to part with it, being a daily driver! These cars kind of grow with you and become part of you I'm sure !!!!! LOL This is the only car I've had where I can get more than I paid for it should I sell now!

I had some components in a Nova and 3 series as part of an expensive build many moons ago, fantastic sounding speakers
