Wing mirrors

Post by marv8 » Fri Oct 30, 2020 5:58 pm

Chipped my passenger side wing mirror surround a while back reversing in to the old garage (was so pissed off with myself I ended up knocking down the garage and rebuilt it bigger). Been keeping an eye out for a replacement but they seem to be ££££, spotted a used one on eBay for £80 (guess it was cheaper as most are sold in pairs). Ended up getting it for £45 which seems like a bargain, has a couple of tiny stone chips but better than the one on there! Only thing was the mirror had “de-laminated” or whatever you call it when the liquid between the glass leaks.
The mirror that was on there has a chunky rubber surround and looks a bit odd - mine are frameless. Checked the date on the part and appears it’s newer, glass has Audi Sticker and part number on it. Not worried I am 99% sure the mirror from my current one will just clip straight in, was just wondering if they changed the design on later cars or if it was just the wrong part...?

I think that's an aftermarket mirror. The ones on mine are edgeless.

must be from the auto dimming mirrors. I have a set of folding mirrors from an S6 (not installed yet) but they also have auto dimming option.
That mirror looks like that. Same issue as with the reversing mirror once broken that liquid leaks

Mine are auto-dimming but they don't look like that.

I tell a lie, mine look exactly like that! They look crap with that big rubber surround when they are out of the housing but OK when in it. Or not noticeable anyway!

The auto dimming mirror I bought looks like the above photo. The non auto mirror I bought is similar but doesn’t have the rubber surround around the mirror edge.

Would be good if he can, last time I priced them up from TPS they wanted £350 each :assflash:

Anyone got a way of contacting him? I’ve had a message in my outbox to him for weeks that hasn’t been picked up.

He didn’t do them at the time of the GB but I’ll give him a call and see if things have changed. 👍

Thanks Shop, yeah been a bit busy 😂 bit of a house project, couple of kids etc. The money pit has remained a constant however despite an embarrassingly low amount of miles!
Built myself a half decent garage set up but still pretty clueless on the greasy bits - did Q7 front brake pads which is a start!
Just having a look over this wing mirror, one of the wires is snapped at the connector and another has a bit of corrosion - looks like an easy-ish fix, assume they are spade connectors in the block so guess long nose pliers and a bit of a wiggle should get them out?
Looks like the wing mirror is secured by a single nut on the inside....
