Rs6 c5 initial start up rattle

Post by Bladevo » Sun Oct 25, 2020 12:10 pm

:bash:
Hi, can anyone shed some light on the initial rattle for a second when started from cold ??
Have had this for a while, when warm it is fine and a few seconds after start up it purrs lovely, just that second or two on cold start up it sounds horrible, I’m guessing oil pressure is not there as to why this happens.
Does the 15 second rule work with the rs6 c5?
Just need some light shed on this and people who have had this if anyone can help ??

It had an oil change about 5000 miles ago, can’t remember off the top of my head the oil, but I know it matched the 501 number but think it may have been 10w oil, would this make a huge difference ?

Can't be 10W if it's to spec. Sounds too thick. Correct spec is VW505.01. Those are mostly 5W40.

Just checked, yea sorry it is 5w 40,
I see a few people try the sea foam to clean the oil ways through so will give that a try first, if not I spose it’s engine internals ?!

Might be worn tappets. Or tired dephasers. You could test the dephasing with the Vagcom to see if you're still getting the right amount.

I'd be seriously surprised if restricted oil ways were a problem on a properly serviced engine.

Just reading forums and going off what people have tried and come across etc, dephasers ..... never heard of them before ??
Worn tappets sounds a good favourite

Cam chain rattle before they get oil pressure to top of heads for lubrication? If I remember correctly the manual even states this is a normal occurrence and to disregard it?
