Not sure I’ve heard the term 4 banger before but I presume it’s street lingo for inline 4?

Easily overcome this problem, K20 stock form, 150bhp shot of nitrous. More economic with spray turned off and faster with it on. Win win!

Very funny, however back in the real world my tuned 4-banger (aka Golf R) can return the best part of 50mpg.

Why does it say “think blue”?
Daytona RS6 C5 Avant. Viper'd, Billies, Waggers, MTM box brain, C6 stoppers, xcarlink, R8 coolant cap (woohoo)

God knows, it's a supposed 'feature' to try and encourage you to save fuel. I think that was the only time it went in eco mode, however to be fair, it doesn't really make much difference - mid 40's mpg on the mway at sensible speeds is easily achievable.

My push bike returns countless MPG but i rather not go out than ride it. Probably the same feeling you get with your golf? 😘

I think it's important too only take this as banter. No for anyone to get too serious.

I did actually work out the Miles per Snickers on my bike. One Snickers bar works out at about 12 miles, assuming you putting some effort in.

Do snickers only come in one size?

Who could get serious about this if you have a life to live? UK was the home of 4 cyl performance cars before the Japanese got going way back with almost F1 style engines that revved to the moon, so it's the country's heritage after all.

My "other" car is the B5 RS4. Tiny 2.7 Ltr V6 but it hauls .... every bit as good, in fact better, than the RS6 so no problems with small engines.

Efficiency is the key. 50 mpg from any performance car is a bit astounding. At a steady 100 KPH I can get the same consumption from the RS4 and RS6. Which is excellent from the RS6 as it has Auto and a bit more lard. So the RS4 is not as efficient and obviously a whole heap less efficient than a Golf R. Then again a bit of age does reduce the delivery a little.

Across my portfolio of old bangers, I have 3x V8s, 2x mid engines, 4x Turbos, 2x 4 wheel drives, 2x 4 cyls and just the 1 diesel. And a total of about 1500hp in somewhere about 20 litres of capacity

The 1.6 4 cylinder turbo diesel gets driven the most.

1 x V8, 1 x straight 6, 1 x V6, 1 x 4cyl. 5 fitted turbos, 4 spares. all 4WD. No diesel. A paltry 10.9 Ltr capacity, some 1180 HP. The V8 is the DD, maybe because fuel is reasonably cheap and I don't spend time in traffic. Newest is 2003, oldest 1963 so not a modern man and probably erring on the side of inefficiency compared with later options.

Lol. And that’s just in the garage or on the drive now.

It’s actually 4 V8s if I include the one not yet fitted. :drink:
Oh, and 3 single cylinder motors. 45 spark plugs and 4 glow plugs in total. All old stuff of limited value, but to Tony’s point above, I don’t like modern stuff anywhere near as much.

I remember when I was a kid asking my dad what a V8 was when he bought a Stage 1 Series 3 Landrover that had a V8 in. And I didn’t understand when he said the pistons are in a V shape - I didn’t even know what a crankshaft was back then. But I remember a V8 being the one to have, even though it only had 90hp, IIRC.

While I dislike the Mazda 5 1.6 diesel (it reminds me of my mediocrity every time I get into it) - credit where credit is due. That thing has the PSA DV6C engine in and when doing cam belt and injector jobs on it the other day, it was obvious PSA had put quite a bit of effort in to making it easy to maintain and service. That was very appreciated! They’ve even designed it so that a cam belt failure isn’t catastrophic, despite being an interference engine. No special timing tools needed, no injector pullers needed, no need to bleed the cooling system and so forth.

Next time you’re around Chris, I’ll show you the boat motor. That’s the “big” one.
