Only after disconnecting the power to the RNS-D.

Did you press OK?

Possibly lost the constant +12v supply required on the "SAFE" wire?

Oh, it's saying that it's not the right pin.

Yeah. There was someone who had the same problem a few months back. Turned out to be a dodgy SAFE wire IIRC.

Well if you use Google translate SAFE Pin nicht angeschlossen means SAFE Pin not closed (connected).

Aye, it just went to the code screen for no reason, had driven it and stopped for a bit, then on restart the stereo went to code, nothing happened for the cable to lose its connection

I stuck it on charge thinking battery may have been low but it’s still the same

Cheers lads, I’ll get a better look at it then

Ok, slight delayed reaction but just getting round to looking into this now

Going from ChrisA post on this previously, i assumed it would be the joint under the carpet as he found, but when i removed the seat and had a look under, there was no obvious issues there, some slight oxidisation but not near the actual joint, strange

So i ordered some stereo removal tools and pulled that today, checked U+ and the SAFE pins, both are receiving 11.6v so voltage seems fine, or does it need a true 12v? Any other problems i should look into, why would unit go into safe mode with power and code, do they have a habit of dying like this? Im fine with a normal car stereo (live, ign live etc) but not sure whats needed with the exemplary Audi box of tricks

I have a Sony DD if needed, but i'd rather keep the old piece of <beep> if i can, just fits in with the oem theme and i also have updated digital TV etc so just rather keep it really for convenience

11.6 is close enough. Were you able to put the code in?

Thats what i was thinking, any lower than 7v i'd be concerned but should be fine with that power

So ive just tried the code again, i get the exact same message as in the first post with pic, to check i tried a wrong code and the unit has now locked, typical

So it seems i have voltage at both pins i need, but the unit is still telling me the safe pin is not connected, could it be faulty RNS or is there anything else i can look at?

Could be a faulty RNS-D - can't rule it out, but I would pull it out and put it on the bench with a known good supply to be sure.

Exactly what i intend to do today, but not sure whats needed to bench test it

Will it just be neg, U+ with 12v and SAFE with 12v, nothing else needed, is there any canbus connections etc?

Yeah, that should be enough to unlock it.
