10mm is a lot and I probably would have gone with what you’ve shown from screwfix if I had thought to look there. 🤦‍♂️

However I will be triming to the inside edge and will line it up before gluing the Alcantara down. If it doesn’t work I’ll pull it off and go with your idea. If it does work though it should be super quiet. 😊

Probably coincides with the breakdown of the foam in the heater vents. Mine’s been blowing chunks at me for a year or so now. At least that’s an easy fix.

Ah. Is that what it is.

These cars are built very consistently. Things break on them all at the same time.

@chris, you recommend spending the 9.99 on the vid then?

Personally it helped me no end. I can be a little heavy with things like this and I managed to get the job done without any difficulties.
I’m also happy to do my bit helping fund people who make helpful videos like this as it seems to me that the “how to” guide is a fast declining resource. I could have built a how to based of the video but the effort these guys have put into their site, I think, it would be a crime to rob them of one of the few pay per view vids. 👍

If you can find a local vehicle upholsterers, the stuff you need is 'scrim foam' and its usually pretty cheap.

I reckon the hot summer weather has killed them all, is it mainly dark cars with dark interiors? My black interior has dropped like this but the light one is fine... both black cars.

Great guide. Lots of little tricks that saved time and me breaking things. Spent 10 bucks and probably saved a few hundred.

When I was researching the RS6 I read that it was the cream interior that mainly suffered from this problem. However there are a fair few people now reporting the same issue this year with the black interior. It’s not the glue that’s failing but the foam, probably due to its age and the weight of the Alcantara pulling down on it. I think it’s inevitable that all will fail. I feel sorry for those buying used “good condition” lining as they’re not cheap and will also fail very soon

Interesting they've all dropped at roughly the same time.
Add me to the list, mine has started failing earlier this year, and likewise I got the foam from the vents thing last year. Reading the thread with great interest

Another thing to add to the "they all do that, sir" list.

@Chris - I've just ordered an alcantara & milano sample patch kit.

If the alcantara doesn't go back on nicely enough - I hope it does - there are options to just get new stuff and put it back in. Milano can also be supplied pre-backed with the foam.
Alcantara is just a brand name. Milano and others are just as nice look and feel. I'll see what turns out a good match.

Do you know if the Milano in black is as fade resistant at alcantara? I've used a couple of black 'tech suede' type materials before, all of which go purple in uv significantly quicker than genuine alcantara.

Interesting. I will research. Although, arguably, if the headlining is in direct sunlight while in the car, there are other things to worry about. :bigblink:

That’s really interesting. If it doesn’t work out for me I might look into that with a colour change. 😎
