Headlining removal
So today I started on removing the headlining. I used the Total Tecknik video to help. It was worth every penny and I managed to complete the job with nothing broken.

Unfortunately I’m not the first person to remove some of the trim and there are a few clips missing but hopefully they shouldn’t be too hard to replace.
Anyway I’ve a few questions regarding some parts that I found...
Firstly does anyone have any idea what this was? There are no Stickers on it giving away anything. The part was located behind the front cab lighting panel and spliced into the drivers cab light. I also found some cable running to the rear, but had been snipped at both ends and another line going behind the dash.
Also when I removed the lining I exposed 3 pieces of car glued to the roof. Surely they’re not OE!? I can’t imagine what they were for other than a piss poor attempt at sound deadening.

Maybe a bodge to prevent an annoying rattle? Doesn't look OE, but manufacturers sometimes do some unholy stuff to get out of a corner.

Just spoken with a guy who’s broken over 20 C5 RS6 and he said OEM. How crap is that. I’ll be replacing with some proper sound deadening.

@Chris - when I did my MG TF roof (hardtop, muppets) I did the following:
1. Scrubbed the biscuit with a stiff brush and soap and water to remove debris
2. Using a slightly watered down PVA solution, painted the whole surface of the biscuit to create a good surface to glue too
3. Used spray on contact adhesive from screwfix to attach it.
4. On mine it was new material - so was important to pre-stretch it slightly and then work from the centre outwards to avoid ridges. RS will no doubt require finessing to, but probably in a different way.
It has worked well. Might be trickier if you're only re-gluing the arse section though.

It’s coming along nicely but very VERY slowly. However this is of my own doing as I’d rather take my time and know that I couldn’t do any better.
Firstly the whole of my roof lining was sagging.
I then took a stiff brush to the foam that remained on the board and Alcantara. This is a messy job and best completed in small areas at a time. Remember this foam is sticky and you don’t want to get it on the Alcantara as it’ll be a bitch to get off.
Like I said this is a long job. You need to keep cleaning until you hit that wall and want to stop. Keep cleaning! This kind of job is all in the prep. By now your thinking that will do. KEEP CLEANING. You need all the spots of old foam gone or it may show through as lumps when you stick it back do. Now you’re think about burning the car and it’s only a roof lining, who the hell looks at the lining anyway! KEEP CLEANING This is going to look great when you’re done! Now you’re thinking the wife might be right and you should just sell the <beep> car! You can stop now.
What’s left behind should be a slightly tacky surface but effectively spotless.
Now I wanted to keep the same plush finish as standard and by gluing the Alcantara direct to the board wasn’t going to achieve this. I visited hobby craft to see what they had but couldn’t find anything appropriate. I then thought to visit a local carpet Shop. They had some 10mm underlining, this is significantly thicker than the original foam (at around 3mm) but I thought I’d give it a go.
Using some no nonsense liquid glue I’ve stuck the lining to the face only and will trim when the glue sets.

10mm sounds like a lot. I'll be curious to see if that causes issues.
I think IKEA do something that might be suitable that goes under their laminate flooring.

Following. The rear alcantara started detaching over winter and is on the list with everything else .
I was going to go with an expert to do it, unless somebody local to me that has done it before and fancies doing it again for cash

Alcantara is just a brand name for fake suede.
There are other products exactly as good as Alcantara without the brand name - the guys use them for the yacht interiors all the time.
10mm. Gulp. There's loads of sellers on ebay that do upholstery foams.
There's even 3mm neoprene - I wonder if that might work well.
Interesting they've all dropped at roughly the same time.
