Thought I’d just check the mega fuses....

Post by Nobby » Thu Sep 17, 2020 10:57 pm

Voltage is still a tad lower than I think it’s been before, so I ordered a replacement regulator and was gonna swap soon. I had the scuttle out so thought I’d check out the drain holes and mega fuses and was a bit shocked.

A few years back my scuttle flooded when the drain was blocked and it was all under 6 inches of water. I thought I’d cleaned it all away but it seems like the corrosion had got into one of the cables.

When I pulled the cable out through underneath the scuttle the end fell off.

Had to cut out a section and join through a 200amp joint box. All sorted now but don’t think it’s made a difference with the voltage. Must have been pulling some high resistance and heat though surely.

Also managed to bag myself a new wheel from eBay. Never been fitted to a tyre or car :kissmyrings:

Wow, that is an ugly mess. Odd how the cable doesn’t show any signs of corrosion. Good spot and a nice fix.

Great result with the wheel too. 👍

Almost like galvanic corrosion. Very selective.

A relatively straight forward fix and a bargain of an OE part....... the things that don’t often happen!!

I think the cable is almost double crimped to prevent any water ingress going further. This bit is the only exposed section of cable and it sits at nearly a right angle going into the fuses.

Wheel gets its tyre fitted next week. Just need to get my 2 tatty wheels refurbed (for more than cost of my new wheel probably).
