Sagging headliner.
Sagging headliner.
I need to get my headlining repaired or replaced as its sagging.
Any recommendations for a place who can do this.

Re: Sagging headliner.
Hi mate hope you’re well you could do it yourself if you can find a decent secondhand headliner it took me two 8 hour days, i did it by myself if you got a friend to help might be quicker, total technic do a video tutorial on YouTube You will have to buy for but think £10 which is really helpful, I’m still in the same situation as the headliner that I replaced it with is also Sagging, kinda my fault as I bought it about a year earlier of eBay and stuck it in the attic and when I got round to fit it I realised it was also Sagging as I had over a year ago I couldn’t really do anything about it so I’m also stuck with a dodgy headliner. There’s a guy who breaks the C5 RS6s I believe he’s got a dark grey sunroof headliner but he wants 700 which includes the interior trims and he doesn’t want to split.

Re: Sagging headliner.
I know many of you are very talented but this was a job for a pro as far as I’m concerned.
Got a few prices between about £400- £1200, Tony 07794 367182 in Bedfordshire did a great job on mine just before lockdown, cost around £500.
It’s very common for the foam to breakdown on cars of this age. The foam has to be removed and replaced with new material. Provided everything else is undamaged and can be reused, as was the case with mine, Tony got a great result. Really pleased.

Re: Sagging headliner.
How did you apply the spray adhesive I was thinking of that too but wasn’t sure where to spray it from and also was worried if the glue would sweep through and be visible.

Re: Sagging headliner.
Luckily its the front part thats dropped so I ve removed the interior light unit and sprayed the area and used a roller to stick it together so far its stuck.
Only issue now is I ve got to figure out how I am going to put the light unit back because it wasnt easy to remove.

Re: Sagging headliner.
I have been pondering the use of a hypodermic needle to inject some specialist gel fabric adhesive into the effected areas and then use a roller as you did. That would potentially remove the need to strip the area down.Personally I think it is worth a shot once I get an area where it has come apart, so far so good.

Ahh ok mines at the back so I could probably remove the rear lights, which glue spray did you use?Frazz82 wrote:Luckily its the front part thats dropped so I ve removed the interior light unit and sprayed the area and used a roller to stick it together so far its stuck.

I’m guessing it’s not showing through?

Re: Sagging headliner.
Just the no nonsense adhesive from screwfix. As long as you dont saturate the area it wont leak through.
Re: Sagging headliner.
Gents, if I were you I'd bite the bullet and get it done professionally. Having seen the state of the old disintegrated foam I can't see how spaying new adhesive is going to be a lasting fix. If you wreck the alcantara in the process, you're looking at a much more expensive fix.
Frazz yours doesn't look too bad, but it will get worse until its just the fixings holding it up.

Re: Sagging headliner.
I've done the headlining on my MG - much smaller, obvs, but the same deal. It went well enough that I feel ready to take on the bigger RS headlining too.
A key to make it successful was to remove as much old foam as possible from the biscuit (the hard shell) and then PVA it to give a good surface to bond to.
This was the DIY I followed then - http://mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/DIY/in ... lining.htm
Step 12 onwards is the interesting bits

Captain - did you remove the headlining from the car and deliver just the saggy biscuit to him? Or did he do whole whole lot?Capt Ric wrote: ↑Fri Jul 24, 2020 6:07 pmI know many of you are very talented but this was a job for a pro as far as I’m concerned.

Oh, that’s the recommendation I was thinking of. Should have read this before responding on the other thread.

Re: Sagging headliner.
Yeah, I eventually found this thread..
Bedfordshire is a quite a trek - so am also hoping I can find someone a little nearer.
Either that or I add headlining to the list of things I wish I was better at.
