Faulty key fob.

Post by steve2003rs6 » Mon Jun 15, 2020 2:33 pm

Spare key fob / remote control would not work after changing the battery.
Tried all the usual fixes but still wouldn’t work.
Found this fix on the internet
Put faulty remote in the ignition and turn on
You don’t need the engine running
Use the door switch to lock all doors.
Wait for about 10 seconds.
Turn ignition off and remove key.
Open doors with the remote and exit.
Remote control should be fully functioning.

Works on mine when everything else failed
Regards Steve
Ps AMD in the USA charges 150 dollars for that. According to the site I was on.

Yup. There are some methods in the FAQ. Worst case, you can do it with the Vagcom. I've had the case where there was no other way of programming the fob than with VCDS.

Hi shopp. I watched the VCDS video and was about to give it a go.
Then saw this method. Took less than 1 min to do.

RS tax I guess. It's such a shame that people seem to think that since you own a nice enough car that they can pretty much rob you blind.

I understand some things take a long time to sort out and fix in terms of man hours, but even the simple things we tend to get bent over for. :boohoo:

Used to go there all the time. Not any more unless I absolutely have to.
And so impersonal.

Incidentally new key is £160 odd + VAT plus coding. Mine has suddenly become an arse. I'll try this trick though as it won't be a bad idea to keep it as a working spare when I have the new one.

Hope it works for you. Mine is still ok to date.

That trick didn't work unless having a rear window open a little stops it. Hopefully the one on order will arrive soon.

New key is easy to code too.

Having just read this checked my spare key again. Mine stopped working also.
Will have to use VCDS this time.
Sorry for the bum steer.

All new key obtained and coded. Not sure it was ££ well spent but better than farting around using the key blade to open and close the car all the time. I have no idea whether the ignition needs to read a chip in the key or whether it's just dumb. That's partly why I got the new one in case a dodgy key means at some point the car won't start at all with it.

I’ve only ever got fob coding to work via VCDS.
Don’t forget the fob and key coding are 2 different things.
