Drivers Recaro seat height adjustment microswitch location

Post by skyegtb » Thu Mar 26, 2020 6:22 pm

My Recaro drivers seat has had an issue where it will not raise from the lowest setting. It has been like this for years and had not bothered me, as that is my prefered height, but my wife hates the seat being so low, so I have decided to fix it. Having researched online the most likely culprit is the 'micro switch for height adjustment - 4B0959985' https://www.oemvwshop.com/4b0959985-mic ... h-p775514/

So, I have the seat removed from the car and have stripped off the side trims and some other parts, and have tried to follow the wires around the seat, but for the life of me I cannot locate this microswitch. Has anyone had experience of this before, or better yet know where I should be looking?

Cheers in advance!

Well, continued stripping the seats today following the info in Elsawin. Pretty simple really, but there is a need for long 90° pliers to remove the 2 plugs that hold the seat base to the frame, so lucky I had a set. So, after that, it turns out that these seats do not have limit switches!!! I omitted to mention above that these seats are the ones in my 2001 allroad, and even though the appear identical to the RS6 seats they are apparently slightly different. Anyway, I removed the up/down motor for an inspection and when tested with a 12V supply it was dead. I opened it up and found that it had seemingly shorted / burnt out some time in the past, explaining the issue. So, as a temporary measure I rigged up a manual handle which can raise and lower the seat from underneath, which is a good enough repair until I can hopefully source a replacement motor.

I did wonder whether it might be the motor. Those seats are a nightmare to dismantle. I had to do mine to fix a broken cable for the headrest monitors. Never again!

I bet you can find the exact same motor on aliexoress or even amazon. I bought a pump for a blood pressure monitor on amazon for £2. Perfect replacement.

Well, the part number / writing on the old motor is VALEO 404.505 12V 475152 ENTSTOERT. I've not had much luck finding a replacement yet. The only used one I found was here: https://allegro.pl/oferta/silniczek-val ... 7699645864

Presumably that’s the same one as this:

I would remove the motor completely and try to get a visual match on aliexpress. Not ideal but not a lot of choice.

Yep, same one. It would do the job but would prefer to get one closer to home if possible.

Yeah, I have it on my bench and I was hoping I might find a similar motor I could use, but not seen anything near it yet. I'll keep looking though.
