Headliner re trim

Post by Capt Ric » Fri Feb 07, 2020 9:30 pm

Now I've had my headliner re trimmed by 'Tony the trimmer' in Bedfordshire,
My RS6 is now cosmetically as good as it is mechanically and will be up for sale soon.
Apparently it is very common for the foam to break down on cars of this age, but fortunately the
alcantara can usually be reused, with the old foam being replaced and new adhesive applied.
see before and after photos.

Hi Mark,
Tony 07794 367182 was recommended by Hukes Car Trimmers at Hemel Hempsted (https://www.facebook.com/hukescartrimmers/) , who had an 8 week wait. They had a chat over the phone and Tony agreed the same price (£400) that Hukes would have charged. Excellent service from both parties.
Another chap that was interested in buying my car had been given a price over the phone of £500, and I had another price of £800-£1000 from https://www.facebook.com/pages/category ... 927762810/ so that should give you an idea of what to expect.

Anyone interested in buying it? (Late 2004 Mugello Blue , 70,000k own by me last 8 years and looked after by unit 20, it's a really nice one! )

You should keep it.

My headlining needs attention, as its sagging everywhere (avant) I was quoted £450+vat) that's with new material. The actual material is in really good condition, but I was told it would have to be replaced as it was stretched. If the foam is knackered, do you have to buy new from dealers? Thanks for any info, Matt.

Nah. If it has foam (not sure if the alcantara does since it's a bit thicker than normal headlining material).
Once the biscuit (headliner shell) is out, scuff it up with coarse sandpaper to remove loose material and then paint it over with decorators PVA and you're good to go.

Shop, when I drive it and feel the torques and the sound of the engine, I feel reluctant to part with it, hense so little effort made to sell it. But I'm now semi retired and my wife keeps telling me we don't need so many cars! I would really like it to go to a good home.

Matt, the foam disintigrates and has to be removed and replaced. Luckily in my case the ancaltara was fine and resuasable, which is I think what was reflected in the range of quotes. £450+ vat for all new sounds very good for alcantara.

It's a good place to be :beerchug: At that happy junction, cars will keep you alive unless you plan to have a complete change in life's interests. There are far less drivers bums than seats in my family so the traditional DD went and the RS6 is now the DD. Gota put a daily smile on the dial somehow.

Tell her maybe you don't need so many wives.

0 wives is sometimes more expensive than 1 wives.

Sure, renting is never cheaper than buying, but there are some advantages to it.

Game, I chickened out on the wives aspect, although it widens the range of options. One piece of advice I'll keep to myself :)
