Help

Post by Matt58 » Thu Feb 06, 2020 7:48 pm

Evening all, got stranded this ev, coming back from work car driving perfect until everything died, managed to wrestle the car to the side of the road and luckily into a safe place. Very scary, no dash lights no hazard light, all dial needles stuck were they were when engine cut out. I did get a brake system warning light first thing this morning, but only for a split second. I did scan car on return journey from work and there was a cafe for EGT 17867 which I'm assuming might be something to do with a faulty maf/maf wiring which I was going to investigate this weekend, cleared code, but left scan tool attached to look at maf readings, then 20 miles later, complete shut down, I've taken the big 150/200 fuses out and look fine other than a small amount of what looks like brake fluid. Any ideas or help would be really appreciated. Matt.

I vaguely remember some weird things going on when I left a bluetooth scanner dongle left in my ODB port.
It only happened on startup though, I disconnected the battery for a while after removing the dongle to make sure any gremlins were out of the system.
Only happened once... been fine since.

Oh sorry, didnt realise it was still dead,....
Have you tried disconnecting the battery? not familiar with the RS6, but pulling the big fuses may not disconnect the power to the ecu etc...
Pretty sure on the RS4 they split into different circuits - one for the starter, one for everything else.

Thanks all, I've removed and inspected the two large fuses and they look fine, will reassemble fuses and battery first think, but I think I'm looking at the dreaded flat bed. Does any one know whether there is a separate 80A fuse just of the battery that supplies the relays fuses ecu etc etc? Matt.

Not many things that will cause a complete cut out without leaving a code.

Maybe crank position sensor.

Maybe x-relief relay or faulty ignition switch.

Thanks shopp, but can't use reader as no power to anything, are you aware of any 80A fuses directly off the battery that supply all the electronics? Cheers Matt.

Hopefully it'll be something straightforward.

Thanks Shop, really hope so. Could of been a hell of a lot worse I suppose, imagine breaking down like that on a smart motorway at night, with no Lhasa rs lights, doesn't bear thinking about, will get a belt and braces job done I think. Matt.

That's meant to be hazard lights. Matt

There's not actually many things it could be - so shouldn't be too bad to find & fix.

Collected car today from RCMR in yeovil, owner explained that after gaining access to interior relay/distribution panel, found no 12v supply to interior of car. Load tested power cable to find high resistance. Found previous poor repair near to interior fuse under bonnet, partially removed cable and remove previous repair, repaired correctly, heat shrink and tape loom. In other words making good a previously butchered job. Thanks for all reassuring comments, glad it's all sorted and safe. Matt.
