Vaico Camshaft Adjusters - Thumbs Up
Vaico Camshaft Adjusters - Thumbs Up
Just a quick post seperate from the how-tos to note that the Vaico camshaft adjuster I fitted as an alternative to OE is good.
They're about half the price of OE, but quality of the unit seems to be on a par with OE (I suspect comes out of the same factory - that casting looks identical bar the audi logo), and cam timing & phasing is spot in.
This is my car this morning - one adjuster is OE with new shoes (sourced as per nobby's thread), the other adjuster is the replacement Vaico one: Can't argue with that. (And Tony - I left it warm up fully this time so idle speed is correct. )
I'll also vouch for the adjuster shoes from Nobby's thread. You can see on my OE phaser, it's restored the timing spot on as well. Those shoes also look identical to the ones on the Vaico ones and are superior to the Blauparts ones.
Obviously also tested the timing change all works correctly to - all reported corrected out of VCDS.
(Phew - didn't fancy taking it apart again)

Great news. Might get a couple for future spares.

HeHeHeHe.......
Annoyingly, the cam chain adjusters aren't common for the V6 and V8. I've one brand new AUDI adjuster bought for the RS4 and it would have been nice for it to be a common part but not to be. 078 rather than 077.

Anyone tried Hamburg-Technic adjuster? I purchased one of these when one of the solenoid failed on mine. Only swapped the solenoid over to fix the problem.

Hi
In the middle of strip down to do these as one failed
Are the part numbers 077 109 088p right and 077 109 087p left???
I’ve found them both in auto doc but it’s saying they’re not compatible with the rs6 but or numbers are the same
Cheers

Yup I have thy too
Re: Vaico Camshaft Adjusters - Thumbs Up
I ignore their compatibility lookup mostly and just use the OE part number as my cross check.

I was just about pulling the trigger on these, but Autodoc says it's not compatible with the RS6, just the 340HP S6... I suppose I shouldn't care, right? Ta

Cross reference the part numbers and I think you’ll see all is fine.

Bringing this back from the dead, any idea how many miles you have put on these now Matt and any hiccups with them? The lump is being pulled out of my old girl (finally!) and these sound like a sensible part to swap out at the same time (90k miles).

No idea how many miles, but they’re still in and still fine.
