Brake Pads
Brake Pads
OK, so I know it's been done to death and it's a fact that OEM pads are the best overall for our cars.
However - Audi have them on backorder. So what's another option that's decent?
* Ferodo DS2500 FCP1664H
* EBC Yellow Stuff DP41513/3R
* Any other other decent options that aren't made out of woodshavings?
Don't want too hard such that they need warming up, or wear the discs excessively, but don't want them so soft that they expire midway through stopping the car either.
Turns out my car has been on EBC Yellow stuff for the last 5 years. They seemed OK, but I'm not a helmsmith - I try to avoid braking for roundabouts. Bit dusty, but did the job OK.

Re: Brake Pads
The DS2500 are good on my M3. Bit pricey on the RS6, though. IIRC they are not street legal, though.

Re: Brake Pads
A bit pricey - but less than half the price Audi are quoting (377+inc), if they can get some.
Is FDS1664 the correct ferodo part no?

Re: Brake Pads
I'm currently sporting a set of pagid rs4-2's on mine at the moment, I've only done about 400 mile or so on them so cant say to much on how much they eat disks . But the are wild when they're upto temp ,and very good from cold . The only down side to them is that they are loud when they're stone cold . I dont mind the howling from them .......... because race van

Re: Brake Pads
Aye. I dunno why I just thought I'd change it.

Re: Brake Pads
I think the DS2500 has the H suffix on the part number IIRC. I’ll check the ones I’ve got in the garage.

Re: Brake Pads
Yes. Part no. is actually FCP1664H I think - I've edited the original message to the correct part.

Re: Brake Pads
I think a lot of it comes down to how you drive the car. I certainly don't 'drive it like I just stole it'. Partly due to years of professional driving and partly because I don't want the agro/expense of repairing it after an accident.
I've got EBC red on mine and I've no complaints
But without doing a direct comparison with a set OEM pads, it's hard to give a fair judgment.
If you like putting the right foot down, then just ease off a bit until the OEM ones are back in stock.

Re: Brake Pads
Think I've found a set in Dublin, otherwise I'll go for the ferodo ones I think.
TBH the Yellow stuff ones were, to my ill equipped eye, were ok too. Genuinely, the days of my driving like a helmsmith have largely passed. I like the car because of what it can do, not necessarily that I do do it.

Re: Brake Pads
I'm sure the cheap pads are fine if you never need to drive in a spirited way. They'll stop you once or twice from speed, but if you drive in a way that puts heat into the pads then they will be inadequate. This doesn't necessarily mean driving like you stole it - it is a 2 ton car after all. My brakes will get silly hot when I've been driving around country lanes for while.
If you are motorway driving or just pootling around with the occasional spurt, then they will be fine. Although I wouldn't want to try stopping in an emergency from 180 mph on the autobahn on the absolute cheapest pads.
/I know nothing about EBC. I'm referring to the super cheap ECP pads or similar.
