It"s time for a new radiator and i have the one with the part number ending in F, which means £900 plus vat.
This must be the famous german sense of humour.
The f radiator has the extra little pipe at the bottom, does anyone know what it"s for, i think its part of the additional coolant circuit. Can a D or E radiator be used successfully with the pipe and hole blanked off, maybe somebody has done this already.
Obviously if i have to buy the audi part then that's how it has to be but over a thousand pounds for a radiator is just taking the p.

Plenty of companies will refurbish your old radiator, I’ve had large hgv ones recored for £500 so would imagine a car size would be considerably cheaper than the price of a new one

Drawing a bit of a blank on this one, all places i have phoned regarding a rebuild don"t have the core, there is no correct pattern part, so it looks like I'm going to have to take it from audi with them wearing a barbed wire condom and cackling like the bloke from raiders of the lost arc...

Mate if I was you I’d try some of the custom rad places and see what they say 1st

Yeah, a few have said they could custom build one for less but they would need mine, plus the time it would take to make one up . My car is my daily so i need it back on the road asap. If i could do without it for a while i'd go down that rout
Another advantage of having one fabricated is that it would be repairable if anything went wrong further down the line.

Be nice if a company committed to fabricating one up for all of us in there future too

Would it be worthwhile considering buying a second hand one to pass onto the fabricators to do their stuff?

I'm helping a friend over here in the states with a leaky radiator right now, and we are finding that the leak is in the plastic tank that would be on your drivers-side (our passenger side). Local radiator Shop says they can't fix it.

Regarding the extra pipe, it appears to be for the coolant afterrun system that "hot-weather-package" cars have. All US cars have the package, but not sure how many have it on your side of the pond. If you're trying to do things on a budget, it seems you could use the cheaper radiator and run that extra line into a tee fabricated into the lower radiator rose. Might be a bit wonky, but could save a lot of money. Also could just unplug and cap off the afterrun system instead.

Older cars have a slightly different coolant circuit but still have the after run system. I think it’s possible to go back to the old system with minimal mods. I suspect it was modified to make the after run circulate back through the radiator more directly, but any self respecting rs6 owner won’t turn their engine off until oil temps have gone back down to normal anyway.

Its not a budget issue its a being ripped off by Audi that gets me. I don't mind paying for something if it's worth the money or even slightly over the odds if its a bespoke part or whatever, but more than five times the price of a similar item is just taking the pi--.
Anyway, as things stand the car has been at the garage for two weeks waiting for the correct radiator which is on back order.
Just thinking that I've never heard my after run pump running, so maybe it has never even worked since I've had the car. I wonder how many others are not working without people realising and how necessary it really is in out climate.
