Loss of brakes
Out for a drive yesterday. Had to brake sharply as a accident had just occurred in front of us. Foot went all the way to the floor with zero reaction from the brakes. A few rapid pumps on the brake pedal and managed to stop.
Thank god for seatbelts thought my wife was going through windscreen.
Got home and changed my underwear.
Checked this morning and brakes working but will take in to garage first thing Tuesday.
Seem to be spending an awful amount on my pride and joy at the moment.
But worth it. No other car makes me smile like this one does. Every time I get into it

Re: Loss of brakes
Had you been using the brakes much just before the emergency braking?
Foot going to the floor like the pedal didn’t resist or the pedal resisted but there wasn’t much braking when you stood in it?

Intermittent fault. Every now and again and always on cold start revs all over the place.
Even worse lack of brakes. Had to really stand on the brakes to get any reaction.
Six trips to the garage. They eventually did a smoke test and found a vacuum leak on the throttle body seals.
New seals were fitted
Smoke tested again
No leak
Not had the problem since. Happy days
Clearly the garage have no idea what they're doing as you still have the brake problem.
If they're not an RS6 or at least a VAG specialist you'll be on a hiding to nowhere. Take the car to someone else.

Re: Loss of brakes
Hi. Yes we had been out all day without any issues. Saw blue lights flashing in the distance so slowed down. Hgv damaged and car in a ditch. As we got closer applied brakes foot went straight to the floor and nothing. While trying to grab the handbrake kept pumping the brake pedal. Felt like an emergency stop. Thankfully.

Re: Loss of brakes
Just been out again. Brakes seem to be ok.
Checked reservoir all ok.
No oil on drive and cannot see any leaks.
I also have the brake fluid changed every 2 years.
Has to be a problem though. That was scary !
Wife not happy as the garage has had the car more than me these last few months.

Re: Loss of brakes
I'm pretty sure someone on here had a very similar issue a couple years ago. Use the search facility and have a look.
And as was mentioned above, how competent is your garage? Do they really know their way round a C5 RS6?

Re: Loss of brakes
Hi stevio. Would love to go to MRC or unit 20 but they are like 200 miles away.
Local Audi dealers used to do all the work on my car. But they were taking the mickey ???
Charged me £800 for a service (oil change more like) got the car home and oil all over the drive.
Phoned them back. Said they were too busy to look at it ?
The garage I am currently using was recommended to me by a relative. Very nice guys to deal with.
But I think you are right. Need a garage RS6 familiar.

Re: Loss of brakes
There must be other RS6 specialists. I can't imagine somewhere like Newcastle Upon Tyne or Leeds or York area won't have any at all.

Re: Loss of brakes
Thank you srichards.
Going to talk to unit 20 tomorrow. Might as well ask them to change the top mounts as well.
Will have to hotel it for the duration.
But they seem to be the ones to go to.
If I can sort out the brakes and rough suspension ride. Then what a car !
Regards Steve.

Re: Loss of brakes
If Unit20 can fit you in, then you no longer have to worry about your car, it'll be sorted.steve2003rs6 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2019 11:57 amThank you srichards.

Re: Loss of brakes
Hi chunky79
Thank you for your reply. I have already emailed unit 20.
Hope they are available. The sooner the better.
Prepared to wait if I have to.
Like other members have mentioned
above. Need someone who is familiar with the RS6 C5.

Re: Loss of brakes
It sounds like you have a vacuum leak going on your other posts. Grizz/ Lee will sort it but you may have to wait, they're normally booked up quite far in advance. Apart from me, Unit20 is the only other place I like doing repair work on mine.

Chunky 79
Yes I think so vac leak.
Some time ago I took the car to a local vag/audi
Garage for a 2 year brake fluid change.
Collected the car. No brakes.
Back on ramp wheel covered in fluid.
They also replaced all the small vac hoses.
Didn’t know it at the time but they also snapped the hose nipple on a vac valve. And glued it back on.
Tossers. Never went back there again.

Re: Loss of brakes
If your brake pedal went to the floor without any braking that wouldn’t indicate a vac leak, a vac leak is just a hard pedal and usually less travel than if you have vacuum.
That sounds like a Master cylinder or servo failure imo, esp if there is no loss of fluid.

Re: Loss of brakes
Yeah, but going by his mother posts, I'd say he has a vacuum leak too. Servo failure would normally result in a hard pedal too.Banana man wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2019 8:12 pmIf your brake pedal went to the floor without any braking that wouldn’t indicate a vac leak, a vac leak is just a hard pedal and usually less travel than if you have vacuum.
