Remote fob battery

Post by Puggie » Sun Aug 11, 2019 1:13 pm

OK, stupid question. What battery do the remote fobs take? Mine are both flat, I've opened them up, one has a singe CR2032 in it, the other had a pair of CR2016s stacked in it! So that didn't help and Google hasn't really given me a definite answer.

Thanks.

Mine's got a 2032 in it. If yours had 2 2016 stacked it might have fried the electronics.

I suspect the remote with 2 batteries has been replaced at some point. When i was looking for a new remote there was a choice of single 2032 or doulble 2016.

2 options lovely :) is there anything to differentiate the two, part numbers on the unit etc? I'll have a proper look at my keyfob collection this evening!

Had a quick look (so I could be wrong) and I couldn't find any evidence that any Audi 3-button key fobs take stacked CR2016 batteries as standard. My money is on the DPO having put 2 2016 batteries in because they didn't have any 2032 batteries handy and didn't know any better.

Well I've just looked at this image:

https://blog.wolfautoparts.com/wp-conte ... l-6-15.jpg

and the +ve terminal of the battery holder (non pcb case) is metallic connecting to the side of the battery, so if you stack 2x CR2016s in there you will just short out and flatten the back one. So hopefully no harm done.

I think it's an aftermarket case or fob like this. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A2-A3-A ... SwXCBaTPnU

So, pulled the fobs apart, new CR2032s all round and 2 work, the 3rd will not program. It does the flashing indicators when you program it via the one fob in the ignition the other in the door method, but will not then lock and unlock the doors. I may try doing it by Vagcom. It may be dead though as that one (I think) had the pair of CR2016s in.
