Changed the Upper and lower front control arms
Changed the Upper and lower front control arms
I’ve just had all new front upper and lower control arms fitted to my RS6. Got the dreaded pinch bolts out and got the call to say she was ready for collection tomorrow. I cannot wait to drive her to see how much “tighter” the front end feels

Did you stick with OEM or upgrade and if so with what?
Re: Changed the Upper and lower front control arms
Crazy first thing I did when I got mine was change the arms, didn’t even know the dreaded lunch bolt was an issue on these, mine came out perfectly.

Just had all mine done at garage. Certainly feel the difference much tighter.

Re: Changed the Upper and lower front control arms
My bottom control arms fitted in June this year started to make a cracking sound.
Turns out my local garage had fitted the cheapest nastiest control arms.
Yet the upper arms they installed are OEM and ok.
Replaced the bottom arms yesterday. So hopefully get the car back tomorrow and all will be ok.

Check the part number of the crap ones that you local bodger fitted. The car weighs nearly 2 tonnes. If they aren't to RS6 spec then I think they've got some serious questions to answer!
And what price did they charge you for the parts?

£523 total for lowers inc labour £215
£816 total for uppers inc labour £290
£270 total for2 x stabiliser links £145 labour.
Lowers look nothing like originals.
Then additional £100 for several attempt to sort it out.
Cheers Steve.
Ps took the car back so many times complaining that they were not right. Didn’t need to be Einstein. Very loud cracking noise when turning the steering wheel.
And they also knackered the main units with the pinch bolts. Have had to replace them at unit 20.these must be about 1k each.

Jesus, £3.5k to renew the front suspension. I really want to buy one of these cars in Jan as planned but you only need one thing to go wrong and thats the wallet emptied.
I'll add this on to my list of things to check when viewing.
I had the issue of the welded in bolts on my A8 suspension - they had to remove both hubs and send them to be drilled out.
What was supposed to be a straightforward job turned in to a nightmare and on collection they said they never wanted to see the car again!
I passed Unit 20 earlier, saw the same grey RS6 in the yard that I saw last time. Wonder what the issue with that one is...

Don’t be put off. These are absolutely stunning cars. Just take your time and wait for the right one.
The grey RS6 at unit 20. Is very similar to mine.
It is being used for spare parts I think.
Took one of the wheel bearing struts ( pinch bolt assembly ) off it and put it on mine to get me sorted. Really good of them. Otherwise up the creek.
And if you do get one. These are the guys to look after it for you.
Hope you find a good one.

Interested in what you were charged for comparison.
So I have some comparison for a meet with my local garage.

Re: Changed the Upper and lower front control arms
My car may be coming up for sell in the new year. Divorce, new house & child costs have nearly killed off all my savings so depending on a few factors it will be coming up for sale so someone can look after her properly rather than me run her on the cheap.
Below is the original advert I put up:

If you are interested PM me and I can give you the updated stuff I have done to it this year.

Ah right, I thought it looked unloved. What was the cause of death on that one?steve2003rs6 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2019 3:55 amDon’t be put off. These are absolutely stunning cars. Just take your time and wait for the right one.

I deliver to a company round the back of the industrial estate and always look forward to driving past to see what's lurking in the car park.

All sorted by unit 20.
Back to how it should be. An amazing drive and so smooth.
Just the brake booster valve to sort out.
In unit 20 tomorrow for said valve.
