Where else can remap our TCUs?

Post by Ben_r1 » Wed Jun 12, 2019 6:34 pm

I know MRC offer the service but for reasons I don’t wish to disclose I’ve lost confidence in them.

Is there any other company in the UK, preferably South, who can work some magic on the gearboxes? I’ve made a few enquires and everyone seems happy to do the engine side but scratches their head when I mention TCU adjustments to suit?

Many thanks for any recommendations.

Wonder if Viper still does them? Think he used to be on SRS. Shopp will know, me thinks.

Can't really say that, then not say why . I'd use MRC for remapping without any hesitation, but not for other work. Heard plenty of bad press unfortunately, and not had the best experiences with them myself.

I’m not trying to click bait anyone just had a few appointments cancelled the day before and when I have to book days off work and lose out on a days wage it isn’t feasible for me to trust them again.

DNA could still do the TCU last time I asked.

I was looking. Basically I didn't know mine was mapped when I bought it.
So I learnt how to download and reverse engineer the tune to code out the SAI, and in the process found I'm on a DNA map. So I got in touch with him to ask about the map and he immediately commented that he would have done the TCU too or else the engine runs isn't worth anything.

Anyway, I'll have look

Tell you what, it was pretty interesting downloading a locked tune off my car and then comparing to stock. And especially so that there was a signature in there that told me it was a DNA tune. Took a bit of effort to modify it and get all the checksums right so it worked. Sweegie, who used to be a member, was super helpful.

Iirc, the gotcha is that the TCU requires a surface mount EPROM to be removed and replaced with a new one, it's not just software like on the ECU

Yes I’ve heard that from a handful of sources now that a physical ‘chip’ needs to be fitted to the existing TCU board. Most probably why a lot of tuners don’t want to know.

Just checked their website and they still list our car, too.
