Still a fun and enjoyable drive after 11 years of ownership!

Post by skyegtb » Wed May 15, 2019 8:13 pm

I don't normally post much on here when my car is running well, and generally speaking, other than a few DIY's I've written (Timing belt, Intercooler refurb, Replace exhaust flexis) I have been quiet for a long time, but today I was out on my own for a nice long drive in the Scottish Highlands (where I live) and had an excellent cruise with a few occasional blasts along some very nice roads with minimal traffic. All 4 windows down, sunroof tilted and all done in 25°C sunny dry weather. I can honestly say that this car is still as fun and exciting today as it was when I bought it 11 years ago. I still love the exhaust note, and if the road surface is fairly decent the ride quality and general grip is fairly outstanding. Of course the best bit is 3000-7000rpm in 3rd and 4th for the warp speed max torque acceleration combined with the incredible exhaust note.
So, that's it, no defects to report, no broken parts or strange noises, just enjoying the car doing what it's best at. I would like to think I might report the same thing in another 11 years time too! I think that I (like many others) have considered upgrading to a C7, and to be honest it is a very tempting proposition, BUT I really don't know what it could offer as a replacement to my current car. Also, I am a 'loon freak and as the C7 RS6 is avant only that puts me off a tad too!

For info, my car is a 2003, now on 65,000 miles. It's a MTM Stage 3/4 with 575bhp and 820Nm, Milltek DP's and MTM quad exit valved exhaust, KW V3's, Hotchkiss ARB's and front and rear Movit brake upgrades (390mm x 36mm/345mm x 32mm). All in all just about a perfect package in my opinion.

Nice.

I was out in mine a couple of weeks ago for a good hoon and had a similar reflection. Never get tired of that relentless shove in the back in 3rd and 4th.

I’d like a C7 but not enough to take the plunge. Yet.

Reading posts like this make me want one even more - I remember when they first came out and seeing that RS6 advert with the bull. My time to enjoy one is nearly here.

Love the MTM wheels, they're one of only a few types I think suit the C5.

Had mine from new, will be sixteen years in November. Still nothing else I'd want as a daily driver after all this time. The loud pedal always evokes the same thrill as it did on day one and never fails to puts a smile on my face :rocker:
