Black Bits....

Post by Mark-RS » Sat May 11, 2019 2:40 pm

I'm thinking of taking my Mugello down the dark path !

Wheels need a refurb so was thinking anthracite type of colour and then darkening up the rest of the car.

But what bits ? And what colour ?

I'm thinking all chromey parts, but leaving the mirrors. So door surrounds, grill surrounds, roof rails, boot bottom, rings etc... But do I go Matte ? Shiney ? I'm thinking more Matte ?

I'm also thinking wrapping rather than painting.

Thoughts ?

Not a bad idea. I have a place in in Northampton it seems that does this. Didn't realise it had taken off so well over here, thought it was more of a Yank thing still.

Anyone have an idea on price ? Gonna be cheaper than wrapping I would have thought, so entire car change might be an option :D

Where's the place in Northampton?

It's very easy to do it yourself with Plastidip in spray cans. Many very light layers built up will give good results. Friend of mine did his wheels - came out really well! Plus you can peel it off if you get bored.

I wouldn't recommend using plastidip around the windows unless they don't contact the door seal.
The friction/contact when opening or closing doors will degrade it. You'd be best with a wrap for these bits.
Grill etc will be fine. Did mine a couple of years back.

Mines Mugello with optional ‘black pack’ and satin wheels, suits the colour well!

I'm really not confident about doing it myself. I've tried in the past to rattle can interior parts on my old Mk2 Fiesta and it looked shat !

I did find some cans from Halfords at about £11 each so it's not expensive I guess, and since it peels off I can rectify anything I balls up nice and easily :jump_clap:

Still, I may get a quote from these guys as I don't have a feeling it's going to be all that pricey....
