Sourcing a secondary air pump - other than Audi!
Sourcing a secondary air pump - other than Audi!
Hi, the secondary air pump on my 2003 RS6 is making a heck of a racket - I checked with Audi and the cost of replacement (it is a Pierburg PPGF20) - £509 + VAT!!
A quick google brought up a PPGF20 on Amazon (US) for $237 USD including shipping, but the guide on the site says that the pump doesn't fit an RS6 unfortunately.
Can anyone advise a source for a replacement pump other than Audi?
Thank in advance,
Dom

Re: Sourcing a secondary air pump - other than Audi!
Don't bother. I replaced mine and it filled with water again within no time so the second one was trashed in about 12 - 18 months. Get it mapped out and removed completely. It's in an idiotic place that just seems to manage to find any spare water that is around.
A decent specialist will be able to remove it, sort out the piping and check the map and remove all the references to it so it doesn't try and activate it. Then check the emissions to make sure it's all ok.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. It may be an option, but taking the car to an appropriate specialist (MRC/Unit 20 or similar?) for the mapping, plus the pipework etc would probably work out similar to replacement. Granted, a replacement may not last too long, but would still prefer to source a cheaper new pump if possible.

For me having it taken out was a fraction of the cost of having it replaced like last time. Costs nothing to ask MRC/Unit 20 what an SAI delete is
Re: Sourcing a secondary air pump - other than Audi!
I have a set from mine - got it deleted when I had work don on the car. Was working fine up till removal.
Unless you insist on having new one

Hi, no, not precious about new, working s/h would be great! I called Unit 20 earlier, they explained that re-mapping wasn't an option unless the cats were removed, something about affecting emissions otherwise, but doesn't sound straightforward.
Could you pm to let me know how much you would want for your s/h unit?
Thanks,
Dom

Re: Sourcing a secondary air pump - other than Audi!
I'm pretty sure I still have the cats on. It will affect emissions but for only the first couple of minutes which isn't actually tested in an MOT anyway. Unless Audi were using the SAI to cheat. Mine passed an MOT fine without it as far as I know.
It's a shame there isn't a cheap source for these pumps. If they were £100 a time then I'd just keep replacing it every so often. I don't like having to work around it but Audi charging £600 is taking the p especially when they're in such a stupid place and they get water logged all the time.

i deleted mine myself and just looped the hose for the valve and made the blanking plates and never even had a warning light(for that anyway!) as for the emissions being wrong mine has miltek sports cats and passed the mot fine.E42 wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 2:50 pmHi, no, not precious about new, working s/h would be great! Re: Sourcing a secondary air pump - other than Audi!
Maybe Grizz suggested that because if there is no SAI then in theory unburnt fuel will accelerate cat death. How much difference it actually makes is debatable, though.

PM sent thanks
Re: Sourcing a secondary air pump - other than Audi!
@shopp none of my other cars have an SAI, so really struggle to see how how it’s a particularly bad thing removing it?
I mapped mine out myself 4 years ago. And I have cats still in since I don’t want MOTs to be “hard”. All good.

Re: Sourcing a secondary air pump - other than Audi!
I have one I pulled from an rs6 I’m parting out, but I’m in Seattle.
I’d ask 150USD + actual shipping for it. If you’re interested feel free to pm me.

Hi, thanks all for your advice, and in particular to V!per on here who kindly supplied the pump he had removed from his car - now fitted and working perfectly, job done!
