My sat nav indicates I am literally other end of the country./ Do you know if there is a way to reset the GPS so it can find me and show our proper location on the screen map.

I'm pretty sure that's the antena issue. Had similar thin in S6 and started working as soon as I plugged in new GPS antena.
Never bothered with RS. I just use tomtom on phone

ok thanks. i might try and enter my location manually and see if that works. if not then i guess i may need to buy a new antenna as you suggest. thanks

Antenna. Get a new one from ebay or somewhere and stick it behind the glovebox.
