So been a while since I tried to sort this problem and now its time to get it sorted so would I be best to take it to a tuner and get the TCU sorted ? APR said they would do tcu and ecu for 1500 bangers lol

I just read through the thread again. It's a weird one.

In the photo of the TCU PCB you posted, it's the chip at the top right that is replaced. Is there any sign at all that the soldering isn't factory?

You sure you were able to go into 5th at 30mph before? Don't think my Viper TCU lets me do that, but I haven't checked for years. Certainly my MTM one doesn't.

MTM must of done some different TCU tunes. Mine is MTM and it goes into 5th at 30. I would rather it didn't as it feels to low in revs.

Yeah, I think it became "fashionable" but I never wanted it.

Sorry for the late reply lads yes it definitely was 30 in 5th, I hear you when you say you wouldn't like it and to be honest I am not a fan of it either but the map was more than that and that's the bit that I'm missing car was completely different when the map was there 😕

I think it’s unlikely anything has changed in the TCU. Most likely is that it’s reacting to different torque calculations based on different data from the ECU.

I would go back and look at the mixture and ignition timing. Maybe you’ve still got a small leak somewhere.

Not that i could see, pic attached. Old boy that serviced it looked after my Audi's and VW cars this was just to much for him I guess.
Can you do a close up of the chip above the chip that has F41 on it? Should be able to see if the chip has been changed by looking at the solder joints.
Are the solder joints on this chip more shiny than all the other chips?

I did read somewhere that you can reset the TCU using the accelerator and key. Might be worth a Google.

Definitely worth checking over the MAFs to see if they are new or original as they are used as part of the engine load calc

Cheers everyone, I will have a look st the mafs and check for any leaks as suggested.
Gearbox been playing up the last couple of weeks as in on the dash the drive doesn't lite up or its all red...no banging into gears or anything like that so I'm just looking thru all threads related to this and see if it needs a sensor replaced or wiring harness. Box has always been serviced every 40k last one was done last year.
This has just started so I wouldn't think its connected with the map on it.

Whats the normal min speed to get 5th?
Managed to get mine to sneak in at about an indicated 38 earlier, which seemed plenty slow enough. Can’t think I’d ever want to do it other than to see if I can, give me 2k rpm and some boost please.

Aye, mine does it just around 40mph and it really growls low down V8 rumble goodness, cant see why you'd want it to do it at 30, seems like it would labour to me
