Is everyone selling up???

I know we aren't all but it seems like there are alot of C5 RS6's for sale on forums on
Facebook at the moment. Quite a few who have owned for awhile too as well as flash in the pan owners.
Everyone keeps saying that prices will rise but I cant see that happening if theres a glut of them on the market. There seems to be a few with some very expensive mods as well as some fairly standard.
Mines still in the garage (see my other post) but if it is a worst case scenario looks like there are plenty of choices out there. Mines a keeper really, sentimental I guess.

I think it’s a car that will change hands a lot right now. Whilst prices are low people can afford to buy them and quickly find out that you are in essence owning and maintaining a supercar.
Once they know there is a engine out job on its way then the cars hit the classifieds and with that advert comes a low price to shift on the problem quickly.
Don’t get me wrong there are plenty of genuine cars out there too... C5 prices will appreciate eventually... 3 years ago you could buy a B5 RS4 for under 10k, now they are all 18k+ cars!!

As Ben h said people don’t realise how much it cost to run them as all they see it’s a old Audi estate-I think the prices have bottomed out now as there’s a loon on eBay for £5k(I’m tempted!) so I don’t think there drop any lower than that and if you buy one for investment then you are buying for the wrong reason as I don’t think prices will ever get as high as b5 rs4 as these have more problems than they do and cost more to fix.

This cars Achilles heel is the gearbox, when I owned the B5 RS4 my main concern was when the turbos let go or the manifolds start to rattle it’s an engine out job. Tbh these days taking out the V6 engine(for me) is not a daunting task and I’d prob throw in a new clutch whilst the engine is out.
With the RS6 we all know that if either the gearbox or turbos fail, once the engine is out you refurb both at the same time, throw in a cambelt change etc and new camshaft seals etc and it’s a considerable bill. With B5 values quite strong now the decision to invest is a no brainier, with C5 values currently so low, for most owners the decision to invest heavily is a tough call.

I’ve spent a mental amount of money on mine rs6 and still haven’t had the problems my mate had with he’s b5 rs4 and he had the turbos and manifold replaced at Audi before he bought it and it was a one owner car from new
The aux water pump had just gone in this pic on it!
Thing is you can’t really get away from doing the maintenance on a c5 rs6 like you can most cars as it will just bite you in the arse
As for the gearbox they can be made bulletproof to a point and there’s a company thats making billet parts and thicker clutch packs for it but there still in development and won’t be ready till the end of the year I’ve got one if there TC on it’s way to me now-it just depends on how much money you want to spend on it.
I’ve got to pull my engine again in a few weeks for a 2nd time and I’m not worrying about it too much this time as I’ve do it before I don’t think it will take me longer than a day. I HOPE!

I can’t see them gaining value like the RS4s have, they just don’t seem to have the same reputation/following.
As for selling up, I’ve debated it many a time simply because it was a hero car for me from my teenage years but the reality is these days there are cheaper and more reliable ways to to go much faster.

So you’re selling up too?

Really? With the exception of supercars & sports bikes there's not much on the roads that get from 100 to 150mph faster than my '6. You'd have to spend big££ to get that buzz IMO.

And that is why certain cars increase in value.
How else would you explain the Ford RS mentalness. Not particularly fast, not particularly great cars. Fetch silly money because everyone wanted or had one in their younger years.
Anyone can go faster for not much money. A GolfR will show my car a clean pair of heals. But it's a Golf.

Nicely said.
I still want a Golf 1 GTi though.
