I just did some browsing. For an estate car with sub 5 sec 0-6 time, there's a few mercs that compare for the money, but it's pretty slim pickings.

Lol no I’m not selling up, at least not anytime soon. But tbh I say that about every car I’ve owned and I get bored quickly and spend to much time on PH classifieds in my spare time...

As for the Golf R, I’d take the estate version over my 6 any day sorry, if it wasn’t for the fact I’d lose so much money on one.

Tell you what, I really reckon used car prices have taken a bit of a jump. On PH classifieds nowadays, 5K more or less buys a shed. But my first saab 9-5 aero hot was 1100 quid.

We have different definitions of a ‘shed’. I’ve bought cars for £200 in the past and run them over years for the same amount again.

No, I don't think we do - but I think I made my point badly.
For 1K, I reckon used to be able to get something not completely <beep> - but similar age & mileage to then now seems to cost quite a bit more.

My best ever shed to the max was a 100 quid Peugeot 405. Got 4 years out of it with nothing more than normal service items. I liked that car.

Perhaps, I remember 10 years ago dealers were offering 0% finance on new cars. The last time I asked a dealer for the same deal I was laughed out the showroom.

Maybe this sort of attitude pushes more custom to the 2ns hand market

Bought it for £100 quid, sold 4 years later for £147

My RS never fails to disappoint me and it’s days like today that make me realise why it’s not a car I’m wanting to sell anytime soon. Driving home today and put her in manual mode, using the paddles I was still astounded just how quick this car is and just how urgent she feels... this is a stock car, I dare to think how she’d perform with a map on her

Terribly worded sentence ,sorry for that. What I meant was “it never fails to put a smile on my face”
