The Cheap stuff ?

Post by Mark-RS » Thu Mar 07, 2019 7:47 pm

Anyone stick the cheap fuel in their car ? Mine is always run on Tesco99 as it's substantially cheaper than Vpower and I've never really noticed any difference when running through 3-4 tanks of either, so I've stuck with the Tesco stuff...

It was also mapped on Tesco99, another reason why I thought it best to stick with it.

But does anyone stick regular old 95 in ? If so do you notice any difference ? Flat spots ? Lack of power ? Anything ?

Tesco 99 is ok.

The ECU will pull the ignition timing on 95. You might as well buy an S6.

Yep as my local Audi specialist garage owner told me not so long ago when I didn’t put in Shell V power , anything other than v power and you’ve just Detuned you’re RS6.
Never in 3 years ownership have I tried regular unleaded and occasionally use costco super unleaded but always use V power, you just never know when you need to Tango
With an RS3 . YeHa !!

Only use it on a splash and dash. You will notice the drop in performance.

Guess I'll keep sticking with the 99 then...

What about the Vpower ? Better cleaning properties ? I'm sure I remember reading that a while ago. Worth it ? Or higher octane with a cleaner burn just as good without the cleaning properties ?

I had to do 95 once in Cornwall last year where 99 supplied stations are few and far between. I thought I’d taken it gentle til next full up but on my last MRC visit was advised I had a stored fault for detonation and ignition retarding/boost limiting.

Is this proven guys?

That the ECU changes how the car runs on the lower RON fuel?

Do most of you with the C5 RS6 use the 99 RON?

I'm going to start using mine as a daily driver over winter, it does 20mpg on a run on the standard fuel and drives fantastic.

I do sometimes use the Lucas fuel lubricant in my diesel cars, but otherwise but the regular/standard fuel most times...

Definitely 99 if you go ahead with the remap plans.

I have never put anything lower than 97 in mine.

Still 99 for me where I can. Mixed some 95 in the Lake district as there was precious little choice for fuel :-(
