Rs6 and the ring?

I’ve done an annual ring trip every June for the past 5 years with a dedicated ‘toy’ Clio 172, sticky tyres and stripped etc.

As I’ve grown older and I used this clio less and less to the point I couldn’t justify the additional space and cost so with a heavy heart I let it go a few months back

Now is the time of year we start arranging the annual trip and it’s only just dawned on me I don’t have anything to go in.

Now I’m a fairly regular track day goer and know the ins and outs of the ring well, but i would never track the rs6 as it’s not suitable for such work IMO and my pockets aren’t deep.

A Nurburgring trip can be approached much more relaxed than a dedicated track day but we all know the troubles of the car failing that far away from home and as much as she is a straight line warrior I wouldn’t fancy it’s chances being slung about the green hell, heavy girl!

So getting another car is out the question at the moment. Would you feel comfortable taking the RS6 on a week long ring trip? No lap records or 50 laps a day of course.
It’s either that or I’ll miss out!

Obviously I know the weak points are the brakes and it will munch tyres but other than that anything else that would need addressing?

Go with someone else in your group and half the driving and fuel costs?

Failing that it depends how much faith you have in your car, and how much you push it. We can all say we could hold back, but on the ring I could seen caution been thrown to the wind when you are actually there.

Rent a Ring Clio RS220. It'll cost you less than the wear and tear and fuel on the RS6 and you don't have to worry about anything.

After every track day I do, I realise that it probably would have cost the same to rent a track car.

Either what Shopp said or just buy another Clio just for the Ring trip and sell it again after. I have a stripped out Clio just for tracking. It has no other purpose in my life apart from regular track work. Myself and a few other RS246ers are going to the Ring in April. I can’t wait.

Shop do you track the rs6? If so how does it fair?

I have every faith in my car, it’s at 80k and touch wood has been faultless in the year I’ve owned it, albeit only covering 2k miles.

If you attack it with caution and treat it like a daytime B road blast rather than a track day then you should be ok. If you can't resist temptation and will end up thrashing it then do what Shop said and hire a car!

I’ve been many times and usually save myself from getting carried away, but previously it’s been in something far more capable of track work such a the Clio, scoobies or evos etc.

I've been a couple of times and to be honest I don't think of it as a track day anyway. A bit of fun on a country road mostly. I much prefer a good track day at somewhere like Spa!! But then the RS6 really is out of its comfort zone!!

I too don’t consider the ring as a track day, I’ve never timed myself nor do i particularly care how fast I can do it but even so one quiet lap of the ring is better than anything the UK can offer.

Funny that: The Adenau Yachting club. I did my first track day with SchnelleSchwaben at the Ring last year. I wasn't quite sailing around with ease! I could have shed more ballast. It was a bucket list thing. Fork in hell, it was scary, especially as much of my company that day we're GT3RSs. I stuck a large 'L' on the back, drive within my comfort zone and lived to plan another trip. A full day is intense, especially if you want your money's worth. So this year 5 laps or so will suffice.
Bunch of us are heading over for the 24hr race and gambling on an incident free Touristen Fahren day the Monday after.
I highly recommend going over for the race. 200+ cars, plenty of great viewing spots.

Legend! Unfortunately I can’t get mine to the local petrol station and back at the moment so a trip to the ring isn’t looking likely in the rs6
