Suspension Options

My coilovers need replaced as the car is getting 'bouncy' and rubbing the arches coming off speedbumps, so dampers are done. Running HR at the moment.

I am leaning toward Bilsteins on a value versus performance basis but would be interested to hear your experiences. Is it worth paying more due to the weight and stresses of the vehicle to go with better Bilsteins or is that overkill, too 'track' for every day use and might result in finding my dentures hanging out of my rattled backside? Different brand, any input and opinion appreciated.

Then of course where are the bargain buys?

Bilstein owner here(PSS9), personally I find them to be bang on the money for a car this size/weight. They do feel firm but any uprated suspension will be the same, they aren't harsh or crashy like cheaper alternatives.

I have a VW CC as a daily with DCC and have it set to comfort, obviously I feel a difference from driving the RS to jumping in the CC but it's not as big as you would think, makes me realise the RS drives really well on the Bilsteins for comfort aswell as sportiness

The old " Buy cheap, buy twice" I wouldn't go for budget coilovers for a car like this, each to their own though

I like the PSS9 I'm on, but I'd be interested in trying some Koni struts with the stock suspension springs and maybe some Hotchkiss ARBs. The problem is it gets pricey to suck it and see.

I think when the time comes, I might put the DRC back on devise a tool and monitoring device to maintain it.

I went down the Koni stock spring route and I'm more than happy with the ride and handling, ride height is perfect aswell. I'm thinking about fitting hotchkiss for the summer. This is my first RS and according to my wife the last, so I've never driven anything else to compare.

There’s a 100% increase in cost between the B14(PSS) at £800 and the B16(PSS9) at £1600.

Huge difference or is the latter just off the chart better, what is the difference between them? I can’t see much other than the quick adjustment option.

I’ve heard the PSS are hard, but I’ve never experienced them.

I have standard springs with KONI's and have no complaints. Especially for the £600 I think they cost. Wasn't easy sourcing standard springs, but glad I held out.

I have a brand new set of DRC shocks if/when I decide to try it. Though I guess the central valves will need a refurb and I need to figure out a better option for the eye wateringly expensive lines that run from the chassis to the shock.

We at CRS have been tremendously successful with RS4 B7 ( same suspension set up as RS6 DRC ) they are very comfortable and handle perfect . Most customers comment that its better than a working standard car, they arent expensive and they dont ride harsh like coil overs do . they can be coupled to a set of H&R springs if stance is a concern . highly recommended
KONI and H&R still cheaper than quality coil overs results spot on !
