Cam covers will not seal

Post by Mumbbles » Thu Jan 17, 2019 5:46 pm

Hi im having problems with my cam covers not sealing.
I've done them twice now but after a couple of weeks it starts leaking again. Replaced all gaskets even chain adjuster tried with main dealer gasket and black silicone.
It leaks from the back on right side and front with left side. All I get is smoke bellowing out of the side of the car after a short run. I'm taking engine out for the second time so want to get it sorted this time.
Any help would be appreciated

Original ones from tps and the other time just silicone.
It's leaking onto manifold both sides. Both times and running down the oil filter and power steering pump.

Don't the Audi / TPS cam cover gaskets come with a sealant also? So you get the physical gasket plus a sealant to apply in combination with said gasket. Cannot remember exactly - its years and years since I had them done on my B6 S4 (circa 2011 ish!)

As mentioned before, you need both the gasket and silicone, particularly where the cam cover makes a sharp V-shaped dip. Also you may want to check your half-pie (or do we say half-moon in English? ;)) seal, close to the cam tensioners if I remember well, see number 3, which seem to correspond to your leaking area :
