Let's talk timing belts

So, I'm gearing up to do the valve cover gaskets and oil cooler coolant pipe very soon. Figured, why not do the timing belt as well.
As we're all aware, the timing belt is recommended to be serviced every 35,000 miles. ECS Tuning sells a complete timing belt kit with the Blue Gates Belt (300% Stronger). I've used them for all my previous 2.2T and 2.7T applications and they are made from a harder material for sure. With that said, would it be safe to assume I could run it until the normal 70,000 interval or are there other components such as the tensionor, waterpump, or thermostat that would fail in between 35,000 - 70,000 miles?

Think most of us in here only use oem Audi belts and tensioners(even the guys running more power)and I have herd of these gates belts snapping-the Audi belt is more than beefy enff for the job on its own.as for doubling the mileage between cambelt changes more power to you if you do that!! I wouldn’t

The belt change interval was 40,000 initially and was then upped by Audi to 60,000 miles.
I wouldn't mess with an alternative personally

Sounds good to me. I'll keep it OEM. I've seen intervals all over the place. With the new technology and material's belts are made of nowadays, is 60,000 safe to go off of?

Probably time period is more relevant these days. Not many people doing lots of miles in RS6s.

Nothing wrong with Gates timing belts, they provide OE belts to many manufactures and in the Evo scene are recommended over OE.
Dayco are also highly regarded and OE suppliers.
I’ve used both brands over the years on many applications from mileage munching daily’s to dedicates track toys with no issues.
Most failures probably come from poor/incorrect installations.

Thanks, but I'm looking for proof that Audi changed the belt interval to 60k miles. Would be nice if true.

I've got a copy of a letter from Audi UK stating the timing belt interval is 57k or 4 years whichever sooner.
/Not that I'd necessarily but a lot of stock in what they say.

Can you post the letter?

From what I remember (it was about 10 years ago!) various people rang Audi and got confirmation. They said they would do a memo round the dealers to confirm but I have no idea if they ever did as mine came out of warranty soon after and I switched to having such work done by MRC.
Why not give Audi a ring and ask.
