Timing still not right...

Post by Jayjay101 » Fri Dec 28, 2018 2:26 pm

Hi chaps
So I’ve changed the timing cam chain and the tensioner used the locking tools and the belt is in the right place but it’s missing when running and the inlet cam looks off to me Imageas the arrow isn’t bang in the middle of the mark on the cam??i will say the tensioner isn’t a Audi one it’s a febi one now I’ve used them befor on my old 2.7t A6 and didn’t have any problems and it was all I could get before Xmas and I wanted to use the car over Xmas(clearly I haven’t!) any advice would be great as I’m at my wits end with the car now and I just want to enjoy it!! Cheers

When you lock the crank with the locking tool can you get the cam locking bar on?

Have you counted the chain links between the gears on both banks?

Can you take a picture of the exhaust came alignment, too? And maybe one of the whole lot?

If you go from cam mark to cam mark lining the pin up it’s 14 links-really hard to get a photo of the mark on the cam-if you look at it from the front the it’s like it’s on the edge of the cam mark

OK, so that's bank 1 by the look of it. If you start at number 1 which is the chain roller in the exhaust sprocket then number 15 should be the roller you've got lined up with the mark on the inlet cam. Right?

And on the other bank there should be one more link between them.

It’s the passenger side I’ve had a part and it’s 15 rollers or 14 links

Sounds right then.

I don't think your timing is off enough to cause misfires. Is that with the engine at TDC?
