KWE vs Wagner Intercoolers

Post by Classik » Wed Dec 05, 2018 7:47 pm

A quick search on the subject led me here viewtopic.php?f=47&t=120056 and there viewtopic.php?f=2&t=127055

But except if I missed something, it seems like those KWE intercoolers are not good for the C6 platform but I didn't find first hand experiences for the C5 platform.
Definitely not my priority at the moment, but as there's currently a nice 24% discount at KWE, you would pay like 600€ for the kit (intercoolers + silicone hoses and clamps but without air ducts), which is worth considering. I would probably buy the air ducts from Wagner as they allow for the fog light to stay (not the case with the KWE air ducts).

Comments anybody?

Cheers!

Have a look at Airtec,

They use the OE end tanks and weld in brand new high flow cores..

Thanks for the heads-up! I've seen your recommandation on the other threads but the idea was also to gain power. Those Wagner or KWE offer almost twice the volume and larger surface compared to the OEM (even refurbished) which makes a difference.

Certainly not, but my understanding is that cooler air is beneficial at all engine loads: less air volume needed for the same amount of oxygen means better efficiency.

You sure about that?-I could be wrong but I don’t know of any car running anywhere near that power on standard coolers. They heat soak really bad for a start and they leak!

Yup. This is where marine turbo engines are awesome - they have water cooled intercoolers so can achieve efficiency >1 - the air going into the motor after turbocharging is lower than ambient!

I wonder if he’d get gains from bigger IC though.

For it to be confirmed we need to see proof! As my understanding is stock intercoolers are only good for one power run on a dyno then they suffer from heatsoak and unless they have been welded they will be leaking!
