Help ! I'm locked in my car !

Post by Mark-RS » Sat Dec 01, 2018 5:58 pm

And the only way out is to turn off the engine and unlock with the remote fob :boohoo:

Why is it doing this ? It locks a few seconds after I start to move and no matter what I do the only way to open the door is to stop the car, remove the key and press the button to unlock from the keyfob.

Button on the door does not work, handles inside and out don't work..... Must be some sort of thing I have triggered somehow with a specific co-ordinated button press ? But what ?

Not sure how helpful that would be with laminated windows.

I was going to post something helpful but I think posting pictures of devices to open a car will be much more fun.

Mark, do your interior lights come on when you open the door? Do the doors lock even if you don't drive off?

Well it has been a bit quiet lately. Since the slippage on the old banana skin incident.

I know what you’re thinking. But wouldn’t turning on the ignition switch stop the auto relock function?

I would have bet on it, but I don't have any other explanation ATM.

A way to try is open and close the rear doors or passenger door also. Just to eliminate the auto re-locking theory. And broken drivers door switch.

Drivers door switch is certainly not working. Been like that since I got the car, as in the interior lights do not come on when opening the door. It's only the drivers door though, but never had the lock thing before.

Doors don't appear to lock themselves unless the car is actually started.

Only noticed it a few days ago as i saw a mate of mine walking to work, I beeped him and offered him a lift, but he couldn't get in.... With a Q of cars building behind me, I had to turn of the ignition and use the fob to open.... Felt like a proper tool !

The doors deadlock automatically unless you lock it with the physical key in a certain way. They always deadlock with the plipper so if there is an auto lock function that's going to do the same. I'd ferret in the menu system to see if you can find it and turn it off until you can get it fixed.

Might be easier just to drop the window and get in and out Dukes of Hazard style in future ;)

The check menu thingy that is in the dash display and there is also a menu knob thingy in the centre console. Both have different stuff you can access. It's all in the owner manual. Also if you've had an after market alarm/immobiliser fitted the auto door lock can be a feature of that too.

Replace the drivers door switch pronto!

In the meantime, try always unlocking it via key-in-door (instead of using the keyfob). You'll need to put the key into the ignition with a certain time to disable the alarm (but it gives you plenty of time, 20 or 30 seconds from memory)
