Smoking and misfiring!?

Post by RS620 » Wed Oct 03, 2018 3:59 pm

Looking at a buying a C5 RS6 again as one has come up cheap as has the above issues. Not viewed it yet or used Vag Com, any idea on possible causes of this?

Head gasket? Blown turbo? Holed piston? Can't be good. If it was an easy fix, it wouldn't be for sale as is, I suspect.

If it's the one on ebay, no mention of mileage either (number plates covered up too). If you could get a look at the smoke, colour and smell will at least help out a little bit.

One would think if its the head gasket, they would have fixed it.

Smoke colour and when its smoking would help a bit with diagnosis. As Shop said its unlikely its a cheap fix if they are willing to sell as it is.....

Very true and my thoughts exactly. Looks a tidy car and my favourite colour. I think it's already at the top end price wise now and still reserve is not met. Think I will pass!

That ad just says EML on, no mention of smoking or misfiring?

There is a chance that it could just be a spark plug or a coil causing a misfire and the smoke is just unburnt fuel... I have asked him for more info! That being said if £4k didn't meet the reserve then I doubt I would be offering him what he wants for it.... haha
