Well here is an update, albeit diagnosis is ongoing. The flywheel has moved and locked against the engine. Preliminary checks suggests the engine is fine although this is still to be confirmed.

We’re now trying to work out why the flywheel has come loose.

We’ve also established that the starter motor wasn’t changed and there is a separate conversation happening on this one.
Strange one. Flywheel to crank or flywheel to torque converter?

Flywheel to crank I believe which is why it wouldn’t move.

Grizz has never seen it before so we’re in the lands of the unknown. Always a great place to be with one of these cars...

Haha!

The gearbox has come back on the suspect list so no prize winning ceremony just yet...

We’re just trying to work out why the flywheel has come loose but at least it’s unlikely that the engine is goosed!

So that’s 6 bolts that have come loose? Wow!! Who was the last person working in that area? They need a new torque wrench by the sounds of it.

Edit: iirc flywheel to crank bolts should also be thread locked.

I don’t think it’s the bolts, so something else has caused it to happen. Just trying to work out what.

I know Grizz sometimes frequents the forum so in the interest of fairness, Mr Grizz (and family, friends, and pets) are prevented from entering the competition unless they vote before Monday!
'Had' you have given Grizz chocolate when you dropped the car there...... :bigblink:

Don't forget they don't really have a flywheel, it's a wanky flexplate with the TC bolted to it. They really are quite flimsy, so I wouldn't be entirely surprised if it's failed.

This would be a stupendous situation!

Although I know Grizz could do it with his eyes closed, I really would prefer to avoid having to drop the engine if at all possible.

I think you'd be pushing your luck to replace the flexplate with the engine in situ. Might be possible with a gas axe I suppose.
And then there's the question of why it failed.

Oh, the plate bolts are single use too. So if they weren't replaced when the motor was out before.....who knows.

I’m aware the engine may need to be dropped but I’m keen to avoid it if at all possible.

Will see what Mr Grizz has to say early next week!
