Don’t mean to be funny, but looks like you took the engine out first before looking under the covers. That’s a bit effort for something that could be checked with engine in situ. Where there any other signs the engine wasn’t at its best?
Looks pretty bad though. Lots of crud to get rid of in there.

when i bought it i had plan to go euro trip in august, asked my friend to do the crank seal too thats why he took engine out.I wanted to do all the weak points just for peace of mind.Short time afer that we found all this crap.
thanks mate
i think if i do same here ,i'll need another enginesimonpoulton wrote: ↑Sat Sep 22, 2018 6:51 amNot quite the same performance machine as the RS6, but my sister's old 2003 1.2 Clio didn't have an oil change until it came to me. I think it went from 40k to 106k and looked like this, and I suspect the previous owner ragged the hell out of it (had a bad boy exhaust on it). I took the cylinder hear off, soaked for a couple of days in some good parts cleaner and came out spotless. Flushed the engine through with some ECP flushing oil, two filter changes and put back together. Still running to this day.
Re: new owner, not the best start with rs6
I guess if there is no metal particles, or signs of excessive wear then it is just sludge. In theory a good clean and a lot of flushing and it should be fine and no need for a full stripdown and rebuild.
How any of the oil galleries haven't got blocked up though is anyones guess. Very lucky!

Standard refurb or gone hybrid?
Re: new owner, not the best start with rs6
standard, but whio knows might send back and go hybrid
Re: new owner, not the best start with rs6
360 degree thrust bearings? That's the one thing I'd recommend anyone doing while the turbos are apart. No change to performance etc, but it means the bearings last longer

Re: new owner, not the best start with rs6
Daft question, but mine is up to 140K miles on its original turbos. Most seem to last 100K+ as long as they aren't running silly boost and get regularly serviced, is longevity of the turbos really an issue on the RS6?
Does adding 360 deg thrust bearings add a lot to the cost of the refurb cost?

Re: new owner, not the best start with rs6
It's not really an issue - standard 270 degree bearings are fine, but 360 degree thrust bearings just a bit better.
I always figure turbos have about 100K lifespan, but can often go on a lot longer too. My old saab 9-5 had 180K miles on it and I think was on the original turbo. In my case, I had the RS6 apart, there was a small amount of oil coming past the seals (within what I'd call "normal used", but more than I'd like nevertheless) so I had them rebuilt. The 360 upgrade was about 50 quid I think.

The 270 vs. 360 Dilemma
Many conventional journal- bearing turbos use a 270-degree thrust-bearing washer (at left), while the new breed of conventional and ball-bearing turbos employ 360-degree thrust bearings. The advantages of a 360-degree bearing include a full circle of lubrication, six orifices on the washer instead of three for the 270-degree unit, and an updated pad strategy to better disperse oil where it's needed. Turbonetics uses 360-degree bearings on all of its T04B and T04E turbochargers. There isn't much of a dilemma here; if you have the opportunity to use a 360-degree bearing, jump at it.

Mine ran past 200K without any sign of problems - though when I was scammed "turbo blown" was my first thought.

Yeah, not suggesting 100K is the limit - more an "at least" number on a stock one. Definately not a particular weak spot on the cars - actually, the motor package overall is very good on these.
