Spark plugs for tuned engine

Post by ZedRS6 » Thu Sep 20, 2018 12:40 pm

Hi folks

I know it been covered many times and people say standard ngk pfr7q will work fine, but Ive got a tuned engine around 600bhp, heard that we should usually go one temp lower for every 100bhp added, am good with standard ones or Denso ik 24?

Thanks

FON

Rule 1

What are the specs of the motor/turbos/exhausts etc? Have you gone manual?

I'm running on NGKs at just over 570 without any probs.

Hi

It’s a sportec tuned one, has had a lot of work done to it.
From what sportec have told me:
Modified cylinder heads
Modified camshafts
Modified water cooling system
Upgraded engine & gearbox oil cooling system
Sportec larger capacity intercoolers
Upgraded fuel pump & injectors
Sportec turbochargers
Sportec exhaust manifolds & 3" stainless system
Sportec engine management & gearbox software
And yes still and auto.

Just got a message back from sportec and have said they always used standard plugs, so prob just going to stick with that.

Thanks

Pretty sure standard plugs are still used on mine too.
I'm sure Zed has rule 1'd his car already... if not, get it done, NEOW.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Don't think they're OEM but they're well proven. NGK PFR7Q

They are OE.
Daytona RS6 C5 Avant. Viper'd, Billies, Waggers, MTM box brain, C6 stoppers, xcarlink, R8 coolant cap (woohoo)
///M3 E46 | XC90 (V8, natch) | Passat GTE | RR Classic V8 flapper

I would have properly introduced myself but have had a few issues with the car: it hasn’t been the best start to my ownership. I’ve come from a B5 S4 (which I still have at the moment) don’t have many pics, haven’t even washed it yet lol.
Here’s a few on the day I picked it up

Engine mounts need change as well as the sub mount at the front, so got hold of some 034motorsport ones, at the same time have the cambelt/timing belt changed.
The car was reving high by itself, which I read the normal cause is the valve under the inlet manifold; which I changed but the mechanic told me it looked in good shape and pretty clean, so it sure if it will the problem.
We haven’t started the car as I’m still waiting for some inlet manifold gaskets and the spark plugs. I’m going to silicone pipe most of the vacuum pipes.

What else would I be looking for for the high idling?

How high? If not a vacuum leak then the idle may have been set slightly higher by Sportec to avoid a lumpy tickover from using different profile cams.

Hope you get it on the road soon, looks very noice.
