Use other technicians at your peril.
Use other technicians at your peril.
I pop onto the forum every now and then and I’m usually confronted by threads that have 3 factors in common-
1. Everyone told me to go to MRC or Unit 20
2. I didn’t listen
3. A bad thing happened.
These cars are unique to work on with a long list of issues only common to the C5 RS6. They are also becoming rare which means a lot of technicians will not have worked on one before. Even Audi technicians may not have had a long enough career to have worked on these cars when they were available to buy new.
These are not cars you can just take to your local garage unless it is purely a consumable replacement.
It will ALWAYS be cheaper in the long run to go to MRC or Unit 20 even if it means getting the car delivered on a flatbed.
Rant over.

Re: Use other technicians at your peril.
I’d say for the most that statement is true however there are people out there who don’t work for the big names that are just as skilled/knowledgable, I am fortunate enough to know one of them
Re: Use other technicians at your peril.
Couldn’t agree more MRC and Unit20 both know their stuff,I’m lucky to know someone
who looks after mine, and I’m extremely happy with the service and cost.
I’d never let an Audi dealership any where near mine.

I'm the only one that touches mine. I don't trust anyone else and I don't really trust myself much either.

Re: Use other technicians at your peril.
My dad a retired Peugeot master tech is the only person who works on my car. What with only fitting VAG parts and my ocd, we’ve never had any problems in 2 years of ownership. Also knowing a Audi tech who worked on these cars when they were released helps a lot. This forum helps looooads too.

Yeah, I'm the same. I'm the only one that works on mine and I don't really trust you either.

“THIS”!! And we all know I’ve made silly mistakes with mine but I’d rather that than go though crap trying to sort out something with company’s not doing there job right and the 2 months of s##t I went through with the company that repainted my front end after someone hit me is proof of that.Shoppinit wrote:I'm the only one that touches mine. Re: Use other technicians at your peril.
There are others who know these cars well and who are great. I use the Phirm at Blackwater Surrey. There are usually other RS cars there and often RS6C5's. They know what they are doing and I am sure there are a few other good places too.
Re: Use other technicians at your peril.
To suggest that there are only 2 companies that can sort what is in essence a load of nuts/bolts/electronics is somewhat naive. It's just a car and compared to more modern stuff, a rather simple one.
You couldn't find a decent tech, you took it to a known specialist who knows these cars well and they sorted you out.
They did this no doubt by implementing good fault finding techniques as well. This is not a skill exclusive to those companies.
Bear in mind there are plenty of RS6's that have never been anywhere near these places and continue to run reliably.

Re: Use other technicians at your peril.
While this is true, for every good mechanic there are 5 bad ones. And with MRC and Unit 20's vast experience of the cars they are more likely to know a problem and know how to solve it.Gripper1 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 16, 2018 4:40 pmTo suggest that there are only 2 companies that can sort what is in essence a load of nuts/bolts/electronics is somewhat naive. Being fairly new to these cars I can't think of a ready example but I can give you one on a Nissan. Any Nissan with an SR20 engine (old 200SX and pulsar mainly). If you took it to a normal garage with a rough idle and reduced power they would start by replacing plugs and coil packs, then looking at fueling then electrical problems etc. (all at your expense of course). If you asked anyone with experience of the engines they would start by checking for boost leaks because 99% of the time that's what it will be on those engines. So while the first garage have charged you for several hours labour fault finding, multiple parts that haven't solved the problem before getting to the problem. The one with experience has charged you for an hours work and maybe a piece of pipe... Only experience can give you that. MRC and Unit 20 have the experience to have seen almost everything before. So when it gets past replacing consumables they are the best bet.
