I reckon the engine would fit, it's the GB that would be the issue. Ideally, you'd want the running gear too.
Easier to just cut up a C5 shell and weld it onto a C7 rolling floorpan, weld in a discrete safety cage, jobs a goodun.

Yeah I do but I mostly fcuk it up.

When MRC carried out this conversion on a B8 RS4 I asked if it could be done on a B7. Doug said there was no way it would fit in the engine bay of a B7. Not sure how big the C5 bay is compared to the B7.

I still think it's the tranny that would be the issue, the C5 has a 4.2 with snails, the 4.0T is more compact with turbos in the vee and a dry sump. The S-Tronic in the B8 is ginormous, I'd go out on a limb and say it's gotta be bigger than the ZF8.

Did MRC keep the S-Tronic or bring in the ZF8?

Does this engine and box weigh less than ours? Mike I’m getting the tape measure out on yours at Audi driver!-it can be done in my eyes it’s just how far you want to go cutting one up.if it was me I’d pick up a bad one(or even a s6/4.2)and cut that up and go standalone on the ecu(syvecs) to run it all-add in a custom rad-intercooler and oil/gearbox coolers-easy!

The engine weighs 16lbs more than the B8 4.2 NA V8. Not sure how that compares to the C5 4.2 turbo or the gearbox difference.

I think Doug said something about how far forward the engine would sit in the B7 would make it impossible so maybe it is because of the gearbox as Bam mentioned.

Edit; this convo was a long time ago so I could be wrong.

The B7 has a particularly small engine bay, though. They had to severely modify the 4.2 to get it in.

The 'muricans do it on old fashion cars with distinct chassis and body... Lift the body off one and attach it to the chassis of another.

Unfortunately Audi engineers are a wee bit cleverer. The body on the cars forms part of the chassis as well. Start cutting into that and you will end up with a car that feels like its made of cheese. Not to mention it will become a death trap in a crash.

Better bet is to make the engine fit, in a full C5. All things are possible of course. And if the gearbox is the problem then best bet would be to cut out the transmission tunnel and weld in a bigger one. Will be far easier to make that structural than welding a whole chassis and body back together. Aftermarket gearbox and engine control will be easier than trying to splice all the looms together of course. But that means you will have to try and remove the engine harness and maintain the chassis harness. Possible but much more difficult with all the canbus crap you get these days! Better bet would be to rewire the body harness to a good old fashioned switch and relay system and get rid of the canbus system all together.

All of this is doable of course. But there are easier combinations of engine and car out there!
