E10 fuel?
E10 fuel?
There's some hoohah about E10 fuel going on at the moment. Does anyone know whether this could become a future problem for our cars? I run mine on VPower which has up to 5% ethanol.
Having had a car that isn't compatible with any ethanol as the fuel lines burst twice until I found ethanol proof fuel hose I know what can happen. It's evil stuff frankly.
Does anyone know for sure how ethanol proof the RS6s are?

Re: E10 fuel?
Generally Ethanol isn't as bad for elastomers as Methanol is. So if there are people out there running a methanol mix in the tank (or most race fuels have methanol) then chances are it should be ok. Haven't seen much about people running methanol mixes or race fuels on here but I'm sure there are some. Question is if they are doing it on standard fuel lines or not.
Re: E10 fuel?
I ran 20% methanol in my Impreza and it burst two lines in five years even using steel braided methanol resistant lines. I believe Ethanol is far less corrosive and at only 5% I think it’s fairly safe. I also use V Power in my RS6 and I’m not too worried about the Ethanol.PipRS6 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 29, 2018 1:16 pmGenerally Ethanol isn't as bad for elastomers as Methanol is. Re: E10 fuel?
E10 is back on the agenda again.
There's a compatibility information thing from the ACEA.
Audi:
E10 petrol is cleared for use in all Audi petrol driven vehicles, excluding the following vehicles:
• First generation direct injection engines:
o Audi A2 1.6 FSI, model years 2003-2005 o Audi A3 1.6 FSI, model year 2004
o Audi A3 2.0 FSI, model year 2004
o Audi A4 2.0 FSI, model years 2003-2004
• Audi A4 Saloon petrol engine models with OEM parking heater, of model years 2001-2008. E10 is not suitable for use during the heating season in countries with colder climates.
• Audi A4 Avant petrol engine models with OEM parking heater of model years 2002- 2008. E10 is not suitable for use during the heating season in countries with colder climates.
I'm assuming ours is ok as we don't have the OEM parking heater?
It's a bit Python's meaning of life and the coat hooks...

Re: E10 fuel?
Problem will be that E10 is only rated at 94 RON, wouldn't be happy using that in ours, especially in tuned motors.
Re: E10 fuel?
VPower is E5 but I'm assuming the ethanol content could be increased in the future. Not everywhere has vpower or equivalent so there may be times when you have to use it so its essential to know whether it is ok.

Re: E10 fuel?
Of course, we do need a definite answer to the question from a reputable source.
I'm basing my opinion on not wishing to fill my tank with E10 on the wise words from Doug at MRC, he wouldn't be happy with me using regular 95 RON, never mind 94.
I'm lucky in that I have a Shell bunker site a mile or so away from me plus a choice of Tesco stores selling Momentum 99, never use anything else.
I'm sure the day will come when you can only get E10 but it'll be some way off yet.

Re: E10 fuel?
Looks like somewhere in the small print the premium fuels would initially be staying E5 to keep classic car owners a bit happier. So that's VPower etc safe from meddling for a while.
