Maf sensors
Re: Maf sensors
I would imagine a great deal of the design is owed to asthetics as back in 2003 a big carbon fibre slab on top of the engine was still quite premium.
Re: Maf sensors
That is true of most cars, especially those with a vague hint of performance. Typically airboxes go through a huge amount of R&D to make sure they have the right flow characteristics. And then someone removes it and puts a simple pod filter in there. 9 times out of 10 they will lose power.
Re: Maf sensors
Problem isn't the flow, it's the mounting / fixing system.

Seems to me that air is indeed taken from inside the engine compartment (=hot!).

Re: Maf sensors
Yeah. Give me stock over that any day.
In fact, IMVHO the intake tract isn't the limiting factor on our cars at all. The good upgrades are well documented and this isn't one of them.

I was confused at MattV8 posting in Matt58's until I got to this post...

Re: Maf sensors
Isn’t there a video somewhere of an OE air box collapsing in from the vacuum on a dyno run?
I’d be interested to see the difference back to back dyno run with the air box lid on and off.
Re: Maf sensors
I don't think it was collapsing. Maybe flexing a bit, or pulling down. IIRC.

Re: Maf sensors
What I mean is that the car is power limited in other areas first. It's not like changing the airbox suddenly gives you an extra 50 or 100 hp. But changing to catless downpipes and wagner intercoolers along with a stage 2 map might.....and then, you need to be thinking about torque and life of the gearbox as well....

Re: Maf sensors
Yes. The C5 air box isn't a bottle neck until you get to more extreme states of tune.

Re: Maf sensors
Hello everyone, after cleaning maf sensors and reseating air box and replacing both boost control valves after discovering one on left side(sitting in car) had been butchered and the 5mm silicon pipe was just loosely stuck in with mastic, car runs much better and small whistle on acceleration has gone, what I can't understand is that when engine is fist started from cold (on choke) car ticks over purrrrrfect, but when warm and when looking from rear of car left exhuast every 3-5 seconds sounds like Leota spluttering/missing, any ideas guys and girls? Everything else seams good and normal under load and car in drive ticks over piuuuurfect again, all advice appreciated.
Re: Maf sensors
I'd be interested in how you fist start the car. My love making sessions with Chunky's mum have become a bit dull. I think the 'fist starting a performance car' method should put a bit of pep back into our bedroom.

Re: Maf sensors
Is it possible to swap maf sensors over to rule out faulty maf sensor, or re there left and right sensors? Matt
