Recommended Gearbox Specialist Near Surrey? 17125 Torque Converter Clutch Code
Does anyone recommend a decent gearbox specialist in Surrey / Berkshire / Hampshire area?
VCDS has found the following code: '17125 Torque Converter Clutch: Stuck OFF / No Power being transferred'.
Reading various forums seems to show mixed view on this code...
Thought I get the gearbox fluid + filter changed and see if the code persists...
Car is unmodified and drives fine.
Thanks

Stuart there is an Audi Mastertech. Knows his way around a C5 and he's very honest too!
A few of us on here now use Camspec and I've always been very happy with their work.

Thank you both very much.
Inline with the 'Possible Causes' on the Rosstech site, I'll get the fluid changed.
Hopefully it's the level / dirty fluid causing the code.
However, as I've said, it drives great.
If I didn't have VCDS I'd be none the wiser and sleeping a lot easier...

Odd that it drives great though, the error suggests that the torque converter lock-up isn't locking.
So you'd be getting less drive in higher speeds. And potential overheating.

Well it seems good to me, although I've only owned it for a few thousand miles.
It also has this code:
'17095 Transmission Fluid Temp Sensor (G93) : Implausible Signal (Intermittent)
I've driven 600 miles + since first discovering the code.
If cleared it comes back after a few hundred miles...

Gearbox loom temp sensor is a common failure.

Hello, is the loom temp sensor the G93 sensor?
Could this cause the 17125 code?

Re: Recommended Gearbox Specialist Near Surrey? 17125 Torque Converter Clutch Code
Yes and maybe. If the TCU thinks the ATF is up to temperature when it's not, it may ask the TC to do something it struggles to do at the incorrect fluid temp. It's a bit of a stretch but it's just about plausible.

I've just had mine repaired for the same code.
They changed the TC and whatever was internally wrong.
It's still the same.
Slow changes and flaring revs (especially 2nd)
They're now going to change the valve body.
Doesn't seem like anyone has the exact same symptoms and cure.
Not much help, I know, just letting you know what's happened with mine.
Might need to look into the temp sensor, although mine gave a reasonably accurate reading (I think)
Good luck.

As a long term update -
The car has driven absolutely fine with this fault code for about 20k miles
For info the fault code is 'intermittent' and when taking my foot off the accelerator at cruising speed I get the "- -" instantaneous MPG reading (apparently this means the TC is engaging ?)
Basically for the first 6 months I was paranoid, scanning it every other week, and did not enjoy driving the car. I've stopped scanning it now and just enjoy driving it.
If there are no 'real' symptoms my view is that it's just a code on a screen

I wish I had no symptoms.
At least I've got a good idea what's wrong with mine.
Gear 2,3 and 5 solenoids are open circuit.
God knows how it even changes gear.
It's been a thorn in my side since I bought the car 4 years ago.

I have the same code as you but no symptoms beagle, I do have a leaking rear output seal though which will be replaced next week with a gearbox service srwewill see how that goes
Re: Recommended Gearbox Specialist Near Surrey? 17125 Torque Converter Clutch Code
The one thing I would say is if anyone is planning a gearbox rebuild, do it sooner rather than later while parts availability is still decent. Give it another few years and I reckon it'll start to be a bit trickier (lot more expensive) to get major parts.

Re: Recommended Gearbox Specialist Near Surrey? 17125 Torque Converter Clutch Code
Agreed, I bought a spare gearbox and TC recently to cover just that eventuality. Relatively small outlay for the potential to keep the car on the road. I have done that with my RS4 as well, spare engine and gearboxes plus a front bumper. Friend hit a guard rail last year and the front bumper is essentially NLA so you can more or less write off a classic for a piece of plastic.
