MTM Map Boost Limit by gear

Post by PipRS6 » Mon Jul 16, 2018 1:21 pm

Hi All

Does anyone know if an MTM stage 2 map limits boost in 1st and 2nd gear? My butt dyno says it does. However, I can't understand why.... With an aggressive launch (which is obviously not done regularly with our gearboxes the way they are...) sometimes the traction control will kick in but just for a second and it is all sorted by the time the boost really kicks in anyway. Otherwise I can't say I have ever had traction issues, even when flooring it in first.
The only reason to limit boost in lower gears is if the onset of boost is too aggressive to control the wheelspin with your foot. Small engine, big turbo type applications where there is lots of lag and then a sledgehammer of boost. With our big engines and relatively small turbos this just isn't a problem as far as I can tell....

If I am correct and they do limit the boost, do MRC do the same thing? If not I might go and replace the MTM with the MRC map. If MRC do as well then I guess I am looking at a custom map!

If saving the box is the reason then that makes sense. But don't worry. When I bought the car I set up a new bank account and put some money in there for a new gearbox when I need it. Its even saved on my online banking as "Gearbox Account" haha

I should have done the same when I bought the car! So is it like for every kickdown you put 5 quids on the bank account? :D

Haha, no I was planning on buying an XFR to begin with. In the end I paid about £5k less than I budgeted for that on the RS6. So I just chucked that £5k into an account I didn't use and renamed it.

Same as me ! I was budgeting for around 13k and ended up spending 9 with a few jobs that needed doing, but the history is full as far as main jobs and servicing.

As is mine. 2 gearbox rebuilds in the history. The most recent one was only a couple of years and not many miles ago. But you still never know! haha
