Post by Jayjay101 » Fri Jul 06, 2018 3:55 pm

So I’m finally at the point where I going to fire up the engine and it won’t start-starter motor is doing nothing but I’m putting this down to the gear box display is not reading park.when I move the gear shifter it’s not reading the right gear-I’m about ready to burn it after all this

How did you sort the gearbox wiring incident out in the end?

Good memory!! All been resoldered by my mate that rewires high end boats for a living but when I did a quick Vag Com scan it looked like a wiring fault

Have you checked the wire coming from the F125 (bit the gear selector attaches near to with that annoying ball joint)? I think that heads up through the engine bay on a separate wire...

Could be brake pedal signal. Does the solenoid in the selector work when you press the brake pedal?

Vagcom will help diagnose the F125.

Don’t think I herd it clicking shopp-would it make a difference that I haven’t got the front brakes connected back up and bled yet?

Shouldn't make a difference. It works from the brake pedal switch.

Somethings going on with it as I’ve just had a quick look and the foot symbol is not lit up on the shifter

Shouldn't stop the engine starting. Something weird going on.

/maybe a blown fuse from incorrect F125 wiring.

Update-so last night moved the shifter till it neutral on the dash And the footlight came on the shifter turned the key and it turned over!-pulled the coil pack fuse then turned it over to build oil pressure puts fuse back in and it fired right up!-think the linkage must be in the wrong gear compared to the shifter so I’m going to pull it off 2omoro and see what’s what

There's usually an interlock on the linkage (via a cable) so that's probably where the fault lies; if the ECU doesn't think you're in neutral it won't start.
Could also be an F125 switch problem, but less likely.

Not necessarily if you take some wire cutters to it... Image
